These pictures are from the Mr. Montana contest I managed to win back when Lynx and I first started dating. Now that I look back at these I get choked up at how proud she was of me.

Can you tell she's 18 or 19 in these pictures?

I was going out to brandings on various ranches early in my teaching career. I get bored and people always need help flopping the calves down, castrating, dehorning, vaccinating, and burning brands in their hide.

Her family liked me and I liked them. We've been together ever since.

This blurry picture was taken before we had digital cameras.

I scanned these tonight and they are sort of blurry. I am bored again sitting here listening to the wind blow. So once again am inflicting my self upon you all with these pictures.


This was a month out at 234lbs. I was down from 283lbs at this point. My face looks so much better when I am lean.

I've never dieted as hard in my life again.

I determined that I was going to get ass striations etc if I had to weigh 175lbs to get the job done. I had just competed in the superheavy weight class in powerlifting earlier that year and was looking about like I do now. Soft with a fat face....and my friend told me that the Mr. Montana contest was going to be held in Billings later on in the year.

I jokingly told him, "I should try that."

His response was, "I don't know dude....do you think you can get hard?"

That really ticked me off and motivated the hell out of me! I thought I'll show you mother f*cker. lol. It was the one time I dieted as hard as I humanly could have and retained ANY muscle.

oatmeal and protein six times a day for one month. No carb loading or any of that shit. I didn't want any surprises.


Here I am after the show with my Dad and Meredith in the background. I couldn't hear out of my left ear and hadn't had a bowel movement for a couple days.

This was one week later at 254lbs.

I'd just got done eating a massive pile of spaghetti with Meredith and some friends in this picture.

In the coming year I got up to 292 lbs. I had the bug to get big, but never wanted to diet again! lol

Unfortunately I never really got as big as I thought I would be at that weight. That is the genetic draw of the cards. Nothing keeps a fella from packing on the beef, but you aren't going to look like a pro does at that same bodyweight.

I am happy with who I am and what I can do though.....life is good!

We wanted to have a junk meal after the show and it was so late that only Burger King was open. We had a big group of friends staying with us. All of us crammed into that hotel room! None of us had money, but it was fun.

We all headed down and on the way everyone was drinking, getting hammered except Meredith and I. The fellas were loud and already half shot. One of our friends reaches into the back seat and grabs this gallon milk jug that looked like it had Crystal Light in it. He took a huge drink.....

It wasn't Crystal-Lite...it was anti-freeze! Long story short..while we were hogging down on milk shakes and burgers...my poor buddy was getting his stomach pumped and eating charcoal! lol. Wicked! The ambulance pulled up and got him from Burger King!

We finally convinced the drunk bastard that he'd die if he didn't go to the hospital.

Then in the middle of the night, my whole body cramped up and I was screaming. One of our other drunk friends decides to "help me"....

He grabbed my leg and started forcing my leg back over my head..attempting to stretch my cramping hamstring! He was hollering "Take the pain, Mr. Montana, Take the pain!"

Crazy bastards! I had to roll off the bed to get away from my well meaning friend, Rhett. I got stuck between the wall and the bed. A crazy night.

Ive had a lot of semi suportive girlfriends, but it sure would be nice to find one that would eat clean with me on a fairly regular basis and really enjoy the sport!

Crazy story! What a night that must have been I had a few like that when I was doing Triathlons back in my 20's. I could never survive that stuff now!

In each shot featuring Meredith, her eyes scream "I love you"... that's SO TOUCHING. Even more when you know that 11 years later she wouldn't change a single word. You two make such a great couple.

As for you, JT, you looked FANTASTIC on stage!

Your face wasn't so good looking one week later though... lol!

Great shots! …and the BK story was hilarious! I was wondering about that banner shot. You were sliced and looking great! You look better with a little weight on your face though. It fits the scene better out there in the wild west. You know, like when you are sitting on top of one of those bluffs contemplating life and the buffalo down there are saying "Shit! JT's up there, looks like we gotta take the long way around."

You and Meredith should probably be a sticky for everyone who aspires to attempt to live the bodybuilding lifestyle and also have a relationship. I am really glad to know you. You both are wonderful people who have made an even better couple.
