MS access Password recovery

Ok guys ill try to make this as clear as I can with my limited understanding.

I work for a company and need to get into the access data base we are using to make changes.

The data base is not password protected it does have user login.

The guy who created it is no longer with us and there is now way for us to get his user name or password at this time.

With out his log we can not make changes, I have already corrected my boss for not having a list of all logins for this very reason.

Any one with knowledge about user password recover please let me know...

I know I can purchase programs but we would like to avoid doing so at this time

Which version? If 2010 you can forget it (the security is ricockulous). Why not just contact the former employee? You can also have a lawyer send them a letter if they are unwilling to cooperate.

Are they user accounts a type of ldap setup like Microsoft Active Directory to just change his password?

This is a long shot, I've never used access login restricted before but can you right click the database file and say open with excel? Then get the tables opened up in excel...

It believe it was from office 2003 tried the excel idea its a no go.

Former employee does not remember what his password was, this was created a few years back.

I have found some free software to recover password, but no free ones that do user name and password.

I know its out there just have to keep looking
