new brown hat

Damn dude you looke like you were hatin life on that last rep of 630! Did you go heavy first, then widowmaker out with the 630, or vice versa. Seems like you'd get more growth by bangin out those high reps.

How many reps did the brown hat help you get?

I think i may have to get one of those.

The heavier set was first.

Without the brown hat I can get maybe 3 reps with 450, and that's on a good day. :D

Think i could wear two of them at one time?

Whats up with the ankles being wrapped? Having trouble with them?

Those are knee sleeves. I wear them while I'm warming up, then I use knee wraps for my heavy set (I just push the sleeves down).
Then for my higher rep set (after the heavy set), I use the sleeves again.

My knees kind of bug me on the heavy set so I wrap them. For the lighter sets they feel fine though, so I just use the sleeves (the sleeves aren't very tight, just enough to keep my knees warm and a bit snug).

Does it have some kind of biomagnetic band around it inside, like the baseball necklaces?

Would you recommend people wrap for prevention of knee problems? Or does it just mask pain?

I would recommend anyone wrap on their heaviest sets. It helps prevent injuries, it allows you to lift heavier (safely, if done reasonably), and it can be a good 'confidence booster'.

I'm not masking pain though, I'm preventing the pain from occurring in the first place by keeping everything tight.

mmmm, notice my knees are hurting now, right in the front since ive hit 465lbs...on squats that is...lol

phats

I'm pretty sure it's because you don't squat deep enough :D

My girlfriend got me a pair of those knee sleeves from board sponsor....

ProWristStraps! Those do keep the knees warm. I am really happy with them. Good lifts, Shelby!

Shelby,
Personally, if you are doing high reps, knee wraps are not going to help knee pain, if anything they will cause it. You are simply grinding the kneecap against the tissue behind it. The slip on braces with the hole cutout for the kneecap are best.

Although, I suppose if we are only talking about one set, then I guess the damage would be minimal. But from one guy with knee pain to another, when I quit using knee wraps all together and went to the sleeve, I got a significant reduction in knee pain.

Correct, that's what I do - I wear knee wraps for my heavier sets (10 reps and below) and for the higher rep sets I wear the knee sleeves.

Thanks T

Fellow Michigander Ken Jackson (2008 Jr. Nationals LHW class winner) is also familiar with the power of the brown hat:

lol. he goes on to talk about how he/his trainer keeps his reps higher to save his joints and have a long career then immediately proceeds to fail on the 4th rep of a bench press:D :D :D :D classic bodybuilding commentary right there, lol.

nice hat though:)

shelby try this.

do your high rep set 1st, target is 20 reps. then just keep the weight the same and do 2 more work sets. try to add 10lbs or so each week and match the reps for all 3 sets. i have found based on rest periods that i get around 20-15-10 reps comparitively for each set and cover a broad rep range and not load and unload the leg press. on days you do not feel like increasing the weight just try and match what you did last workout but lower your rest periods. i really like this approach as i am deadlifting heavy now and not squatting at all.
