Hi, I am new here (a friend of Vander's)

Dum question but anybody know a good way to get rid of shin splints??

Cripes, Vander has all the luck, you are beautiful.

It sounds like you have been running on pavement. Lay off for a few weeks and shop for new running shoes. Best place to go is a runner's shoe store as they should be able to take one look at you and know exactly which shoes you need.

A lot of stretching and ice massages using an ice cup on your shins.
 
HOLY SH*T...thank you for coming on over...you can learn a lot and probably by the looks of things, tell us a bit about the women's side of this sport.

Keep it up...I know I will....ok sorry for the cheesey line :)

Oh yeah shine splints. I noticed if I did the ICE thing after the sport...a good massage. Also, you can strengthen the shines by placing your heals on the calf machine and raise your toes up as high as you can. Also, us a DB...place it on your toes and and raise your toes up to the air.

looking good, I'm beginning to think genetically gifted people come off an assembly line in Arizona...lol

as far as shin splints...like they said, stretching and ice massages. Shin splints are usually caused by going from low activity to high activity. Did you just start doing more cardio? Whenver you increase activity like cardio (treadmill, running outdoors), try to do it gradually and you should avoid shin splints.
 
Welcome , to the board . Ice those shins girl..........you can tape them before excersise as well. You may want to look into orthotics . Also shins raises tend help recovery and prevent future occurances.


Take care of those suckers or they can get pretty bad........if you get a chance read my post in Vander's now I am pissed thread ......I had a few questions for you.......

Resting/easing back on the running helped me w/ shin splints....

Im a fitness competitor, and I do some modeling but hopefully more once I turn pro

VERY SIMPLE>>>>>

Come to my house and ill rub your shins for you??? Im just joking. The reason people get shin splints is because the muscles on the front of the shin get overdeveloped and begin to tear away from the bone. Now theyre not going to "tear" off completely but sure doese feel like it. Best thing is ICE. Also massage works well. But there is not cure for them completely sorry.

I used to get them in Track a lot and when I was a Pole Vaulter....

Here's what solved them....because we know you can't just stop running or training! Running on grass and appropriate shoes helps, but here's something else.

1. Sit on the floor with your legs flat...toes pointed toward the ceiling. Your torso can be up...like supported against a wall or couch.
2. Have a friend take your toes (have them cup the top of your feet really) and push down slowly stretching until your feet are basically flat on the floor.
3. You'll feel a tremendous stretch in your shins...very soothing

Do this 3X a day and see how it works for you...
Lastly are you getting enough Glutamine? Definitely helps repair those little strains...
