Looking good, Norm. Keep it tight, you're down the home stretch. It's always great to see another "experienced" guy on stage. I look forward to seeing you at the show & best of luck to you!!!

SKOOKUM

Looking good buddy. Only 5 weeks to go. Best of luck.

Some of your poses need some work but other than that you look great. You look very lean for 5 weeks out so I wouldn't change a thing. My biggest mistake is always wanting to take it a step further, and I always end up hurting myself more than helping.

Your back is awesome. Wide, thick and detailed. A little more leg size and you will have a very good physique.

Best of luck Norm. Keep us posted.

Right on, I agree w/ everything Mainevent said here. Bring it home, Norm.

Thanks everyone, I'm pretty excited about getting on stage this year. As for legs, more size would obviously be great but at least they aren't embarassing anymore. They have been the main focus of my training for the last 2 years, and I'm pretty happy with the results.

Just a little about those legs:

In Jan 2001 I took a 60' lead fall while ice climbing in the Alaska Range. My right leg was shattered and I broke my back in three places. After two weeks a gangrene infection set in and I spent the next 4 months in the hospital.

Some of the leading bone Docs in the country wanted to cut off my leg. They insisted I would be more mobile without it. They told me I would never lead a normal life as long as I kept the leg. It took me 2 years and about 34 operations to get the hang of walking again, but I kept the leg.
Most of the bone in my right leg is from someone else, but all the metal is mine!

For the first 3 years, all my leg work was unilateral, to bring up the injured leg. Now I still do a lot of unilateral work but I can work squats, front squats and legpress also.

LOL.... I just didn't want anyone to think I was one of those guys who won't train legs.

Hey Norm, I didn't mean anything disrespectful by it...and after hearing that Im more impressed than ever your even getting ready to step on stage.

BTW, I may have missed it but what are your stats? And what the hell do you do for your back? I need to get on that program ASAP.

The first thing that came to my mind when I saw those pics was "he must have had some sort of leg / back injury". A guy with a back like that, and an overall physique like that, is not a guy who shys away from hard training. That you were able to come back from an injury like you described is very impressive. You have my full respect.

No disrespect taken bro' . There IS an imbalance between my upper and lower body and those of us who do what we do will notice that sort of thing. I just wanted to explain why it the imbalance is there and what I have been doing to correct it. All in all, I'm very pleased with my progress on legs, even if there is still plenty of work to be done.

It's funny.... Social Security has me classified as 'Disabled', but I know better than that. I'm not 'Disabled' , I'm 'Challenged' and I know just how to handle a challenge!

Stat's - 5' 8" tall, started cutting at 230 and now I'm 210-205 depending on hydration. 43 years old. I have been competing on and off in both bodybuilding and powerlifting since the mid 80's. The back thickness is years of heavy deadlifts and squats (plus weighted pullups).

This is my last competitive season, I'm giving it all I have just so I don't have to wonder what would have happened if I would have really tried. After the State show, I'll bulk for 7 weeks and then get ready for Master's Nationals.

IMPRESSIVE!

EVEN MORE SO NOW THAT YOU'VE TOLD YOUR STORY....WOW.

SOME GUYS WANT ANY EXCUSE NOT TO EXERCISE......VERY MOTIVATIONAL, NORM!

NICE WORK.

Disabled...thats funny...you look great bro and your story always impresses me, you are a true champion bro and offer the bbing world quite a bit!!

Looking great norm. BBing is eternal and you can compete at any age. Yea you look real disabled to me:rolleyes: . It's amazing how the SS people come up with that crap. Considering the docs wanted to take your leg you have done an amazing job bro. Go for it!! What the hell do doctors know anyway. Best of luck and post up some comp pics!!

Good luck to you bro, looking good!!

looking good Norm...

Question: Where do you live in Alaska?

I was stationed at Elmendorf, AFB back in 1996-1999 and I also worked out of Kulis ANG base in Anchorage Alaska, before moving back to NY, I loved it in Alaska and I have been back a couple of times over the summers for the Sammon runs and Halibut fishing. I use to work out at the gym a Fort Richadson. We also had a small private gym at our training faciltiy over by the airport.

I used to live in Anchorage. My last place there was on Gov. Hill, two blocks from the entrance to Elmendorf. Now I'm in Juneau.

I've been here four years now and to tell the truth, I'm kinda homesick for Anchorage. But I have a great job here so I guess this is home for the time being.

Lookin good bro and an incredibly inspiring story. F... all those Docs who say it can't be done. Your an inspiration to us all. Best of luck in your show!!

your brother in Christ,

Lucky
