nose cauterization

Anyone have any experience getting their noses cauterized? I got my nose embolization done I wasn’t keeping on top of my blood pressure and diet. I was having constant nose bleeds and they got gradually worse until I ended up in the icu for 9 days.I was running 80mg of telmisartan. Doctors are telling me next thing I can do is get my nose cauterized. They did embolization but I’m still having complications.

Weird timing as I just went through something similar to this two weeks ago. I had posterior and anterior nosebleeds for a week after a period of high life stress and allergies/colds and my ER doctor incorrectly placing a rhino rocket to address the initial posterior bleed. My blood pressure was extremely elevated despite being on 40 mg lisinopril.

Cauterization is fine, not too uncomfortable but you’ll get some scabbing. You will not stop bleeding until your blood pressure is at a normal level as I had to be cauterized multiple times over that one week period. Address the blood pressure before you cauterize.

Once bleeding stops, scabs fell off in a week for me. I would not train during that time as the temporary blood pressure elevation will likely start your bleeding again.

Yeah I had it done before I even went near AAS. It’s pretty quick and I didn’t find it painful at all, maybe a little uncomfortable. Essentially it’s a mild chemical burn. While healing, you’ll put Vaseline or something similar up there to keep it from drying out too much, cracking and bleeding. Healing time was pretty quick from what I remember, a week or so.

Thank you I appreciate the help, I’m on still Telmisartan 80mg but the ER doctors also have me on nifedipine er 60mg. What did the doctors get your blood pressure down to before they did the procedure?they told me not to work out for 4 to 7 weeks with the current embolization procedure but I’m still having issues with bleeding nowhere near as bad as before. But man it’s scary and frustrating wondering if you’re going to have a nose bleed from taking a shit or just because there is a temperature shift etc

How quickly? Also I’m moving from hot humid place like Florida to Washington. Did you have to cut back on your strenuous activities?

No problem. Yeah man, although it’s very likely not life threatening as long as further studies have been done (CT of head, echo to assess impact of high BP on heart, etc.) it’s certainly a wake up call that the BP needs be appropriately addressed at all times as a stroke would be a major issue.

Similar to you, they added a calcium channel blocker (amlodipine at 5 mg) as well as HCTZ at 25 mg. I also took off work, came off all PEDs (not even TRT), stopped training and cut meals from 6 a day to 2 a day so I dropped bodyweight.

Not sure your personality but that might be hard for you to handle but it’s important to realize that
1. You can’t bodybuild effectively in that state anyway
2. The rebound from time off is not overblown. Any time I’ve come off gear I’ve exceeded my previous physique in 8 weeks. Your experience might vary of course but my point is that muscle memory is very real.

Focus on getting healthy and don’t stress too much over it.

Had a vessel in my right nostril cauterized years ago. I would get nose bleeds every time I would do some physical activity. It created ann increase in BP then causing the bleed. The ENT doc told me I had a superficial vessel and the pressure would cause the bleed. He was able to fix it up. Had to go back once to have it recauterized. G2G now.

It was over 15 years ago. I think it was a week, 2 at most. I did cut back on lifting but it was just for that week. Honestly I think you’re in the better climate, humid seems like it would help more than dry climate would. It was honestly not a big deal at all. You’ll be surprised at how quick you’ll be back to normal.

I had mine done several times I think with silver nitrate or something when I was very young, like 30+ years ago. I'm had high bp here and there without nose bleeds.

Unfortunately, had it done a few times on an emergency basis. One time, it took them 4 hours to get it to stop bleeding, thought I was going to die. The ER nurse wasn't able to get it to stop and the ENT on call was too busy watching the Diamondbacks game and refused to come in. Finally the game ended and he came in and was able to do it right.

Do you take many supplements? Oils (fish, flaxseed etc)? Any NSAID's? Any SSRI's? Any cialis/viagra? Obviously your BP is the main issue and many things can affect the severity of the bleeds but if you cut down on things (that aren't super important) that thin your blood it should improve matters or even stop all bleeding.

Do you live in a dry state? My ENT recommended a nasal spray called Xlear that keeps the sinuses moist and it has helped me a ton.

I had to have that shit done after a blood vessel in my sinuses popped ..flew my ass to bagram and everything..twas not comfortable

I had it done 15 years ago from bloody noses due to wrestling. No issues and it was painless , they used a chemical and just swabbed it.

I live in Florida, they have me using to nasal sprays. Oxymetazoline HCI nasal decongestant and the other is deep sea premium saline nasal moisturizing spray

Had mine done many years ago in the er. Could have been a bone splinter from a broken nose but my experience was much different from everyone else's in that it was quite painful. They used a stick with some chemical to burn inside of the nose, very uncomfortable. After mentioning the pain the doc injected lidocaine into the septum of my nose. It sucked. But long time ago and they probably do it differently now.

Could have been the fact that yours was done by an ER doc, most have it done by an ENT doc.

I always catch hell with my sinuses and lips when I stay somewhere with low humidity. Basically anywhere west coast or up north.

Living in the swamps with the humidity levels always in the +90% range daily. If I go somewhere with a dry climate, my lips will get scabbed up and I’ll get crazy sinus issues. Basically be miserable for the trip!

You’ll have an adjustment period to go through just from the climate changes! Something else to keep in mind….

Nah I think we just found the softest guy on the forum.

Just kidding, but I think they normally apply a numbing agent. It’s not as much fun without the numbing agent but it’s not horrible.

That’s a good point. I’m sure they numbed it first when I had it done. It was over 15 years ago, so my memory really isn’t clear on everything.
