Since we have many dog owners on this board I figured I would ask here.

I have a Pit mix at home, and his shedding is driving me up a wall! Sometimes I feel like a girl(sorry ladies) and scream at the amount of hair he can shed.
He is getting good quality food. (Canidae dog food ) And he has started his "shed no more" tabs. Is there any better dog food designed to help reduce the shedding of dog hair? And also is the any Vet or non Vet medication that can be taken orally to help reduce this shedding problem?

So far I have not taken him to the Vet for this. I am not sure if it's food related or genetics(family history) thus far. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

how often do you brush him?

i have a 5 year old pit and i have found that during this time of year if i dont brush him 2-3 times per week he can shed pretty bad.

I know the Canidae made my dogs sick and I had to switch from it. Brushing them once a day will help. But if you add Salmon oil to there diet it will help. Just 1 tablespoon a day will help. I also add olive oil and flax to help and they seem to do pretty good. But the Salmon and Flax is the best way to go.

If I didnt want my rottweiler to put hairs everywhere, there were times of the year where I had to brush him every days

I am going to try and get on a schedule where he is brushed at least three times a week. He gets a bath a least once every 3 weeks so as not to dry his skin out.

His shedding is really nothing new. When I picked him up from the animal shelter he was covered in loose hair. I just thought it was because he was never brushed.

Will try all the advice given. Thanks folks.

my bulldog shads all the time , nothing works. we used to have black rugs ...gone.

We have rugs in our house, from the stairs on down. Upstairs is all hardwood flooring. This dog just made the decision for me getting all hardwood floors downstairs more easier! hahaha

i have a pit i rescued, he is somewhere between a year and 2 years old. short hair dogs shed year round, no matter what really, they do shed a little more when its hot, but typically, they she all the time. I play with my dog frequently, and part of this is getting a brush and grooming, if not daily then EOD for sure. its just part of it. I also noticed, the more he is outside, the less he seems to shed, not sure why, but he prefers to lay in the yard instead of the house. Its just part of owning a short haired dog.

PM me your address and I will send you the product.

Many dogs suffer from separation anxiety(BEING LEFT HOME ALONE) which is a other form of stress, as with in humans execess stress over a long period of time can lead to illness and decreases quality of life.

Boomshaker,

I just noticed that you will be getting a product for your new dog, This product is DogTor-Rx. it has to be the best supplement that I have came across in a very long time. I discovered it by accident. I was in a need to get something to help one of my females that was Diagnosed with HD +++ she is a Rottweiler I imported as a pup from Germany, I imported her from Germany because the breeding is very strict. I am a breeder of World class and International champion Rottweiler bloodlines, This is a first to have a dog with bad hips, Anyway I noticed her limping one day and then did a little research on products that could help and found the DogTor-Rx and found out that there are Growth Factors in the supplement that help the dog start producing Growth Factors that have stopped, Its very crazy and hard to believe, but this stuff started working with in a week, she went from going outside running down the fence with my neighbors stupid dog and limping inside from the pain to no limping at all even after running with the neighbors stupid dog.I put her on 3 tabs a day at first then I went down to one tab a day until I went outside and seen her and my male tied, I did not want this but did not want to have her fixed because at the time of there mating her hip results had not came back from Germany. When this happened I increased her Dogtor-rx to 3 tabs a day (just to help the pups/ try and keep them from having hip problems)until the pups were weaned and then I gave half a tab a day to each pup till they were 12 weeks old. The pups are 6 months old and they have no signs of hip dysplasia. They were also the strongest pups when they were born that I had ever seen and being a breeder I have seen my share of pups. She is now on 1 tab a day and still no more limping. I also noticed that she sheds a heck of a lot less then ever since she has been on dogtor-rx, I almost forgot to tell you about the shedding and that was the whole reason that I made this post. Dam this looks like a testimonial. Maybe I can get paid for my promoting the stuff. All joking aside this stuff the dogtor-rx helps in a lot of ways. I give it to my male after we do protection work. It helps alleviate stress. I am interested in hearing how fast you see results with your dog.

Thanks

Thank you my friend. My wife is a stay at home mom so the dog always has someone with him. He is a very cool dog and that's why I am willing to put up with his shedding. Very smart pit mix dog. Soon he will be attending his "official" obedience and Level 1 prtotection classes. Should be awesome!

I hope this works out for you. I have 2 dogs and 4 cats, all rescued off the streets.

One of my dogs is a lab pit mix and we feed him Candidae dog food as well. We feed our cats nutro dry food. All of our pets are pretty lean and healthy.

Its a part time job just vacuuming and cleaning the hair off the floors. I know what your going through. I like things clean and tidy and it can drive me crazy at times but i have learned to live with it. Im glad you rescued this dog.. take care.

ok , so maybe i wiil get some ideas too.
I have a rescue aussie bulldog. we got her with pink skin all over (white dog) and she had a cherry eye.
we operated on the eye . but every remedy the vet comes up for the skin with does not work . she is very pink. I will post a pic later.
never had skin issues with dogs s I my all my last dogs were pits and healthy till old age.
