I took my 3 teenage kids out on Saturday for lunch at the Mall and a movie. We saw the new Clint Eastwood movie "Gran Torino." This was one of the best movies I have ever seen. Judging by the reaction of the audience and my children I don't think I am in the minority with my opinion. My prediction is this movie is going to win many Oscars including the The Academy award for best picture and actor Clint Eastwood. Not to give anything away about the movie but all of Eastwoods lifetime worth of Cinematic skills are on display. He has learned from many masters and influences and I just don't think he gets enough credit for all he has done and is in the movie business. Amongst the many great things that this movie has to offer is it's great attention to detail. Eastwood learned this from famed Italian director Sergio Leone while making the 3 legendary "Spaghetti Westerns" Fistfull of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Leone took such pride in his knowledge of the American Civil War, and The Old West that he often boasted of knowing more about American History then any American. Eastwood was heavily influenced by Leone's painstaking desire to have every representation of the Civil War or the Old West 100% accurate to every detail. This really shows in what I think is a masterpiece by Clint Eastwood. Go see it I highly recommend it.
