If any of you are considering getting a new pet, why not check out your local animal shelters first and rescue an animal that no one wanted and needs a good loving home. So many of our friends get left behind or turned to the curb needlessly. It is these pets that would make the most loving and devoted family members. Just give it some thought and rescue an animal in real need. You will feel so much better for it and your new friend will forever love you for it also!!

Another addition?

Got my first dog from the the shelter. Looking forward to possibly getting another to keep my first one busy at times.

I have a mixed Pit at home. I wanted to get another mixed Pit. Some people tell me to get a girl, and some say a boy. Girl because they will get along better. And don't get a boy because sooner or later they will hate each other. But I am like WTF does that mean? So your input would be great!

Great post Oldfella. My wife and i have been fostering dogs and cats now for about 8 months. Its a great experience.....gets a little tiring, but well worth it.

Both my kitties were homeless, and my first husband and I also adopted a 3 yr dog. He got custody of the dogs, but I got the cats.

Everlast and I found our K-9 security Rotty in the pets section of the local paper. You just never know what great pet finds are out there when you visit the local shelter or look at the newspaper.
