Alright. Well, I did the thing that Ring Steel suggested with the system restore. But it only restored part of the McAfee security program. This was the free 60 day trial that came with the computer. I bought a different one and as I was installing it, it told me to uninstall the McAfee. So I tried but it's saying that it's missing something to uninstall it. What should I do? Just install the other program instead? Or somehow try to get McAfee off?

I knew this was going to happen as soon as I heard the restore fix but I saw the post too late as you had already replied. I just didn't want to jinx Linx...lol... You have 2 choices, remove it manually which will take some time and a little guidance. Or try re-installing McAfee (with the same version) so that you can uninstall it after. What would you like to do?

If I re-install I won't have to buy it right?!

OR can I call McAfee and scream at them? :D

No calling Network Associates will not do anything. :D You wont have to buy it, just make sure you download the McAfee 30 day trial NOT McAfee.com Online (web version)

Where do I get the 30 day trial?

Not sure which one of these you have:

http://us.mcafee.com/root/downloads.asp?cid=11345

You may have yourself a mess now however. You should also be able to go into System Restore and reverse changes you made from the last restore you did. This would probably get you out of the trouble you are seeing also, but we would need to work on the wireless portion separately which is fairly easy.

Here are some instructions for removing McAfee manually if you feel up to it which would probably be one of the best but tedious ways:

**broken link removed**

Let me know if you need further assistance Lynx.

*sigh* I'm not totally sure. :( I'll try tomorrow night with trying to get it off manually.

Good idea to try and get it off manually at this point because you can always do the latter.

and when he is done he can delete it altogether and download the free version of AVG by Grisoft (download.com). I like this best.

:D Thanks Alan I got it done...finally. Yeah I've been dreading it for a while and just used the other computer. But I'm sick of JT always asking for me to sign in so he can use the internet. "Get over here and run your finger over fingerprint thingy!" :D

Thanks for the free version but I already bought and opened Windows Live One Care.

Lol, no problems. Not the first time, probably not the last. :D

Ok, so I installed the McAfee crap and I'm trying to install the Window I bought. I run the program and it tells me to uninstall McA. It's still telling me:
"The installation cannot continue because some components (c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\agent\uninst\mpfrem.ui) are missing."

I hate McAfee.

You are stuck with the manual instructions I have listed above then. Give it a try and let me know.

Ok, so I just stuck JT's computer away until I could ge someone to help me. I brought it to work with me today and had someone work on it while we were sitting there waiting to register students. It was a mess. There were McAfee programs everywhere. He finally got it all off after about 45 minutes or so. It may have been longer, it seemed like it took forever. Anyways, it's done. *Whew!*

I Jsut Downloaded this Program because I KNOW My Registry is Awry and It only cleaed up 9 issues out of a possible 200 or so! I guess I thought it was a complete program (not a trial) since you advised to DL and use it! Thanks;
JD~
