I'm sorry I haven't been around very much. Everlast and I have been moving into our new place which means moving two homes and consolidating them into one. We start moving my things last weekend, and it turned into a Chinese fire drill. I was the most unorganized move I've ever done.

On top of all this I've been caring for my terminally ill cat. He had cancer. I've had him for 15 years, and he's been with me through some really bad times. Since I don't have kids, he and my other cat are my babies. Last week he wasn't doing so well, and by the weekend he was getting worse. I took him in Monday and put him down. That was the hardest thing I've ever done. I know it was for the best, and he's much better off.

I just can't shake this emptiness. I miss him so much, and I'm still very sad. I have so many wonderful things going on in my life, and yet this sadness still lingers.

Thanks Everlast... for being so understanding.

We love you Sassy! Sorry to hear your sad sad news. Linds and I are thinking of you!

That looks exactly like my wife's cat that we had to put down last year, except she was a girl.
It was very das for my wife, so I know what you are going through and my condolensces to you.
It will get better, and just remember the great friend you had that is now in a better place.

i also have no children and i know the pain this causes...i had to put down my dog to prevent him from suffering any more pain as well. Just know that your love for your cat was strong enough to put his needs above your own and i know this may sound crazy to some but i believe they feel that love.

Give linds and I a call if you just wanna talk...

Hey Sassy
May the pain of your loss be replaced by memories of the happy times you shared together.:)
BIG HUGS from downunder.

Hey sis, I want to say how sorry I am for your loss. i am almost in tears typing this cause I know exactly what you mean. I have no kids but i do have my dogs. When I had to put the old man down I was in another world, i was so hurt and sick. I cried for days. he was 20! It left a gaping hole in my world. So I know your pain and it will pass. We get so damned attached to our pets. I also believe they feel our love and appreciate the affection we give them. They love us so unconditionally and ask for so little in return. You absolutely did the right thing for your baby. If I had to do it all over again I would! it is only fair that we do not let them suffer.
Now if we could only do this for ourselves in the end it would all be good.

Cheer up Sass. Your love has been appreciated, and your devotion unwaivering.

It's so nice to hear from other pet people. I have always found that people who have pets and care for them like their own children are always good people. Thanks to everyone for you kind replies.

The hardest times for me are the mornings. We just had our own routine in the morning. My other cat just won't be apart of the old routine. She was just never interested. Then she has her own way of lovin' on me. I keep telling myself that this may have been a good time for him to pass on, because we're moving into the new place. We'll be starting a new routine. I think this will make it easier for me to let go of my grief... or I hope it will.

Oldfella... 20 year is a long time. That's amazing. Everlast has a little Chihuahua that is getting up in age too. I'm not sure how old she is, and he said that this just makes him want to love on her all the time.

Thanks Nosmas... that means a lot to me. :)

Morepain... to me pets are amazing because their unconditional love. When you are good to them, they seem to love you know matter what happens. I've had one of my kitties get under my feet many time and stepped on them. After a quick yelp, they are all purrs and headbutts like nothing happened.

Nikopapp... my cat had a sister that looked just like him. I often wonder what happened to her. There are so many times I wished I had taken her too.

To top it off...

The past couple of months have been rough on my family or at least since my Grandfather passed away around Labor day. My mom called last night, and her sister (my aunt) was in a terrible car accident. Granted she's the black sheep of the family, I never wish ill on her. She just keep getting herself in trouble all the time. Now she is in the trauma center with a broken neck, bruised brain, 3 broken ribs, ruptured spleen, and damage to her liver.

Sassy, I am sorry to hear of your difficult time. I will keep you and your aunt in my thoughts today. I understand about the specialness of your little one. My dog has gotten me through some dark and painful times, and I thank her and Life itself for her companionship each day. One day at a time.

Good luck with your move.

Damn Sassy, The crap just keeps on coming don't it?? i hope she pulls through ok. But look at it this way. All the bad shit happens now and you will be blessed with bright sunny days for the rest of the time. It just is all a bad set of circumstances and of course the timing is all wrong!! You know you can pm me anytime darlin.

Yes 20 yrs he was my best friend. With me 24/7. I still shed a tear for him now and again. He was a chihuahua and just the coolest!!

Cheer up sis, things will get much better soon!!

Sassy, sad to hear about your cat.

I let ours outside this summer and he never came back. I am sure something got him. He was an "inside" cat. He had claws and all that, but no common sense about being scared. He charged some full-grown wild Turkeys once that would have tore his ass up. I think a coyote got him.

Needless to say I was in real trouble for a long time over the loss of our cat "Loser". Meredith loved him and I tolerated his hairy ass. I enjoyed it that she got so much pleasure from having him around though.

Once again, I am sorry you lost your beloved pet. I know that's no fun.

Exactly my feelings too. I love my two girls (cats). One is 13, the other one almost 6.

Hugz for you Sassy!

Thanks everyone for you thoughts & prayers

Update on my Aunt... she came through her surgery and is showing signs of improvement. They ended saying she had 8 broken ribs, punctured lung, ruptured spleen, damage to her liver and broken neck (4th vertebra), and possible broken or dislocated jaw. She is still unconscious due to the bruising on her brain, and they are keeping her heavily sedated.

They said she was speeding and lost control of her car on a very bad curve in the road. She hit the telephone pole so hard that it spit it in two and landed on her car... driver side. It's a wonder she's alive. I'm just glad she didn't hurt anyone else. She is expected to fully recover, so everyone is optimistic.

I'm still missing my baby. It's amazing how much they bring into our lives. We take that for granted sometimes.

Well that's some good news about your aunt. I am pleased she will be ok.

About missing your baby, Sassy you will always miss your baby but you may rejoyce in the thought that your baby had a wonderful life and gave love to you unconditionally. it is what our animals do for us to repay the kindness and love we show them. You did everything that would have been expected of you and in the end you put your baby before your feelings and ended it with dignity and love. do not feel so sad, your baby enjoyed the time with you and appreciated all that you did!

I am so sorry for your loss, I have had to put down a few of my cats one was 18 and one was 13. I also had to put down my girlfriends cat just last summer she was only 8.:(
Just keep the great memories of him with you.
