I've been battling back pain for years now. I finally decided to got to a spine specialist, so I would know exactly what I'm dealing with and how to correct it. It had been over 15 yrs since I've been to the doctor or physical therapist for my back.

I have pain in several areas and I wasn't sure if they were related or not. The pain is usually in my lower back, right hip or right foot. Some days in both areas. My hip feels like someone is stabbing my with a knife. On really bad days the pain runs down my hip flexor into the top of my quad. :(

The doctor did x-rays and MRI and it turns out to be arthritis. Now I'm learning all I can about how to cope with arthritis. I find it interesting on how important exercise and stretching is to keep everything flexible. Now I'm more thankful than ever that I still work out because it would really suck to just start training at the age of 49.

I always knew deep down that some day this lifestyle would benefit me. It seems even more important now than ever between controlling my weight… hypothyroid and now arthritis.

Is anyone else dealing with arthritis? What are you doing to control the pain?

I'd love to hear from you and how you cope with it.

Do a search for curcumin, it might help you out some

Well everyone here takes Kratom for pain, and they'll tell you to do the BPC157 for it's healing power.

But Sassy is there a particular reason that you have back pain?

Have you looked into trigger point therapy?

I've had oa in my knees since I was 23. Been dealing with it for fifteen years now. Knowing my limitations is key. Supplement wise I do curcumin and krill oil. That's been the best combo I've found at keeping inflammation down.

I have helped lots of people deal with degenerative conditions in healthy ways.

check out some of my threads.

also you may want to talk with phoenix...34 or something... another longtime female member who has tried a lot of our products and protocols, she might be able to give you a woman's perspective on some of this.

good luck!

Everyone has arthritis. Not just you. Don't get hung up on it. If you x-Ray 100 people above 30 all will have some in certain areas in there bodies.

This being the case. Find the reason the arthritis is progressing. Whole body inflammation factors, and biomechanics mechanics play a large part.

The front of you groin is where your hip joint is and displays pain. It could also be the superficial muscle like the hip flexor group.

An MRI can help prove more information. An arthrogram MRI can also show if the labrum is effected. If you inject the hip socket with a steroid and numbing agent it can be telling if the hip joint is also the culprit.

Either way physical therapy should always improve the function.

Knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, Hands.. 52 BTW
I do take currcumin not sure if its a help.
When I need help I see my ortho and cortizone shots work well for me
there is also a script that i have diclofenac sodium and if i remember you cycle it 2 weeks on 2 off i think.
I prefer the cort. not much of a pill guy 1 shot and i am good for a bit. how ever the pills work for all at the same time the pins ofcourse are specific. I know others that do ibuprofen with success never tried not for me..

Thank you all for your replies!!! You've given me lots to look into.

I wasn't sure what was causing my lower back or hip pain. I thought I had pulled my hip flexor. I thought something was pinching my sciatic nerve. I've been dealing with chronic pain for over a year now. Some days are better than others. I had eye surgery (vision correction) and took 3-1/2 months off from training. If it was a pulled muscle or torn ligaments then it should have healed by then. That's why I decided it was time to go to the doctor.

The MRI show no problems with my disc or vertebrae just a lot of inflammation that the doctor said was arthritis. He said there was a small tear in the connective tissue between two vertebrae that he claimed was from the inflammation. The inflammation was pulling my spin a little to the right making it curve slightly. Which would explain why my right hip was hurting... but he said that it wasn't sciatic.

I've been taking Naproxen Sodium it seems to do better for the pain than ibuprofen. He gave me a script for Meloxicam for the really bad days. I know I need to find a way to reduce the inflammation.

I've started taking Glucosamine & Chondroitin w/ MSM. I need to get some fish oil supps.

I appreciate your replies. Thanks again! :)

seriously I have written sooooo much here about systemic inflammation and how to address it in healthy ways. please look it up.

your problems are very simple, and you do not need drugs to fix them, using drugs is only going to mask your problems and bring you further from an actual solution.

the things you are taking and other suggestions here are archaic, painfully so.

do not use cortisone, I am honestly shocked when I see crap like this.

i can not say i am surprised when i see the same posts over and over and over again but for real we seem to hit new lows on a daily basis around here ( not addressing this to you, but some of these other posts )

to anyone experiencing this stuff, it is your own fault!

you make it worse by not addressing it in the ways i have said and by using these painfully out dated methods and theories, they are akin to the theory of sailing off the edge of the world...

stop "thinking" and start learning!

I've read some of your articles that you posted here. What would you consider the most proficient peptide/ substance to use as a anti-inflammatory ?

Please post up your MRI report. What your doctor is saying isnt making complete sense.

I agree that naproxen sodium is much better then ibuprofen for management of acute MSK inflammation. Many people on this thread are against NSAIDS but if you wait for the synovium to hypertrophy you will be worse off. Not sure exactly what the issue is with your back yet though

I've got 3 bad disc's in my lower back and I'm with Gotgame on something your doctor saying, doesn't sound right. The exact wording of MRI report would be great info.

I'm about to have third back MRI in 4 years and every specialist and doctor explains it differently, not all are correct in their interpretations. With careful management, my MRI's show healing of the annular tears. But relapse is easy.

They are now doing back MRI's standing up, because laying down uncompressed has not proven to be accurate on showing how the tear effects the nerves. Haven't tried this type of MRI yet myself, waiting for the next big flare up.

I'm anti pain killers and against back operations, so stretches and laying down every couple hours for 10 to 15 minutes is my relief.

Thank you for your reply. I will check out your posts. I have no desire to take cortisone shots or any other pain medicines. I feel like there have got to be better ways to deal with this. I'm very interested in how to reduce inflammation through diet.

Everlast, my husband, knows how to do assisted stretching. When he was young he wanted to be a physical therapist, but that didn't work out for him. Thankfully for me, he has been working with me. I've also been going to massage therapist.

I don't have copy of my MRI. I thought they would post a report in my patient portal online account, but they have not.

Sassy, with my Lyme's I got arthritis in a lot of places. Curcumin (injectable) and fish oil keep me pain free most days. The effects are not immediate but after 3 weeks you'll feel much better. Every now and then if I'm really active and a rainy day comes the next day I'll have to pop an aleve

depends on the source of the problem, inflammation and how to deal with it is a very broad topic.

after that depends on the individual, dealing with a 250lb athlete who wants to run and jump and hit people all day is entirely different then dealing with a 75 year old 100lb women...

so much can be done with diet if you really work at it and stay on top of it, most don't.

stretching and message are both good and will help but at some point you will probably have to tae it a bit further.

I am very much against using corticoids for most things. if you look into some other posts you will see that gotgame and I come from very different perspectives on these issues but often agree in the end.

if you are not the type of person who is 100% on top of your shit and responsible for YOU then his suggestions will probably be more effective.

when people approach problems looking for none mainstream methods they often do so in a very haphazard way which makes it generally ineffective in the long run sometimes you can cause more harm the good.

for those that do take responsibility for themselves I think in most cases there are superior methods to what might be considered main stream.

always happy to help, feel free to pm or email me if you like.

thanks!

interesting...

I helped another guy with a terrible case of lymes get his shit back together too, took a long time and he went through a LOT of docs but also had real complications.

lymes can be a real bitch.
