Computer wont boot...

Ok, its an emachines laptop, windows 7. When I turn it on it shows up the opening big e screen with the press f2 for options and whatever, then goes to a blank black screen with a flashing bar in the top left corner of the screen ans sits there.. wont go past this point. Tried removing battery and turning on with only the cord plugged in to no avail... anyone know what's up?

It takes me to the options and ordering of boot and whatnot.. I messed with the settings some and tried ax few different things but none worked so I restored default.

Sounds like either your Windows install is corrupt, or the hard drive's gone bad, which is pretty common in laptops.

Do you have the Windows/restore disc still? You could try booting off of that - if it's a restore disc you might want to get the data backed up if possible, that will mean taking the drive out. If it's a Windows disc, you can repair install.

Nah I don't.. I got the laptop from someone else. Don't have the disc :/

I have had something similar happen to me before, I ended up having to restore the computer.

I'm not sure if all but most laptops do not need the disk to restore to factory defaults, I cannot remember what key to press upon the computer posting, though I was able to get into restore mode and voila like new.

I would do a search for your model with the tag restore to factory defaults or something similar. My problem was caused by a virus. Hope this helps.
