13 YEAR OLD COMMITS TO USC

13-year-old quarterback David Sills commits to USC - ESPN Los Angeles

i think the whole college recruiting process has gotten out of hand. basically we are telling these kids at way too young of an age that athletics is the only thing that matters.

I think that's awesome! Im sure he must be stoked and his parents aswell.

I dont think thats what the colleges are saying at all, thats just your perspective..

Some kids really dont have a future to look forward to, and by getting an opportunity like this I dont see what bad can come of it..

It will probably keep him from straying and screwing up in his teens and keep him motivated.

I sure as hell would not pass up a chance like that or would tell my kid (if I had kids) not to take the offer..

of course take the offer if its there, i don't blame him or his family for that. i would do the same thing if i was in his shoes. i guess what i meant was that i think there needs to be regulations put in place to prevent colleges from looking at kids this young. at 13 it is great to be involved in sports, however their main focus should still be getting an education. its way too early for them to start having the mentality that they need to do this and that so they can get an athletic scholarship. i played more sports than anyone and i did end up getting an athletic scholarship to a D I school, but i certainly was not thinking about it when i was in 7th grade. its unnecessary pressure in my opinion and the kid should enjoy being a kid for a little longer

I understand what you're saying, but those days are long gone.

Thanks for the story though..

13 years old... come on... let kids be kids...

Luckily the recruit is for the 2015 year and he will be 18. Hope he stays grounded with all the hype.

I don't understand how the coach at USC can talk to a player that young. My daughter is an all American point guard in 8th grade at her High School.. Her team just finished their season 14-0. No team got within 20 points. Her high school coach said that college coaches can't not talk to her because she is only 13, it is against the rules. How can this coach do it at such a young age? Maybe USC is asking for trouble again.

Sounds like a lame attempt by Kiffin to get himself and USC in the news for something other than all the crap going on with the program.

steve clarkson, a very well known quarterback guru/coach is training this kid. says he is gunna be better than matt barkley and could be the lebron james of football in years to come. steve clarkson called lane kiffin because they are friends in the same circle out here in the west coast. steve tells top coaches what his clients can do and send them film, basically get these kids recruited and prepared for the pros. lane then told steve to call the boys father, and that he wanted to speak with him.

the father said he couldnt pass up this opportunity for his son, USC is his dream school.

great info.. thanks for the post... damn i'm gonna have to keep an eye on this kid

Ballsy move by USC imo. It's like wiping before ya poop. It just don't make sense. Who knows what could happen to this kid in 5 years? He's in the early throws of puberty. It's not like he's 18 and he's gonna go straight to college. He's still a young kid with a looong way to go.

This will probably actually motivate the kid to try harder in all aspects, its easier to push yourself when you have something to push for

Come on guys. Look at the recruitment process... At best, this kid is allowed to verbally commit. Neither the school nor the player have an obligation to this kid until he has signed the contract his junior year (if the school still offers at that point). It's really more of a way to get the kid to steer more to USC if by chance he has great success as a high school athlete.
