hey guys,

was just wondering if any of you guys are familiar with jacob wilson or his training/nutrition ideas? he is a writer/trainer over at abcbodybuilding. his views on training are very much like charles paliquin(spelling).
I was just reading some of the article over there and they appeared to be based on science and logic rather than simply theory.....he does advocate a higher volume approach to training but he also agrees that it can very easily lead to overtraining if sleep diet...etc...etc are not all in check.

has anyone else seen these article or tried these methods. just curious to learn more about different approaches to training and bodybuilding in general.

Don't know him and never heard of him. But as far as volume training, that pretty much is how the average person trains cause the think more is better. My theroy is it's good for certain things, but in the long run less is really more. Look into HIT training.

thanks for the reply

I have looked into hit style training. had good strength gains as long as cals where very high)....did moderate/low volume training(5-9 sets per BP had decent strength gains , with good size gains...again cals had to be very high.)

my first cycle ever I did one of arnolds beginner programs right out of his book went fro 207 to 245...again cals where very high.

I am starting feel that hit, moderate volume and occasionally higher volume all serve different perposes and all have certain benefits....when you look at guys like vander v, who uses high volume you certainly cannot say volume isn't as good as hit....and yes, i know we are all different, but we are not that different.

does any else have any thoughts on this.
thanks again armegedon for the reply

HIGH VOLUME AND LOW VOLUME BOTH WORK.. but, most people can not handle high volume workouts.. they will burnout eventually.. i havealways believed that you do the workout that you will do the most consistant. in other words if you love low volume and never burnout and can not wait to get to the next workout, then stay there.. missed workouts can not be made up.. if you belive thet high volume is the way to go but, find your self not into the workouts and missing a few here and there, then even if it is best for you .. it is not worth it.. find the one you love to do and dso it often and do not miss.. consistant training will more than make up for a flawed program..i hear people comment on how the pros train lazy ect.. that may be true for some of them but, they rarely miss workouts.. even lazy workouts add up..

I know jacob pretty well, I used to spend a lot of time over at ABC actually. He is a very good writer and puts out some very informative articles.... and yes he is all about high volume. I completely agree with lats in that they absolutely both work, but some people will do better with one that the other. I have been doing high volume for the past 6 years and have put on considerable size, and just the past 2 months switched to HIT(DC style) and have absolutely loved it. I'm always pumped to go into the gym and kill the log book, and I feel like i'm getting more out of the workout's because instead of going 80% on 3 sets, I'm going 100% on one. In addition, I am breaking plateaus and getting bigger all at the same time. Maybe one day I will switch back to high volume just for a change, but for now I'm sticking with HIT. In the end though, they both work... you just find out works for you and what leaves you with yearning to get back into the gym and kill the iron. cheers,

-James

LATS

I agree that people will burn out eventually with high volume. However, I believe that people will burn out eventually with low volume as well(If they are training intensly)

I am starting to feel that incorperating both style is optimal. I have built up a great deal of strength over the last three months training DC style(not under his guidence)...however, the size gains where minimal(and yes I eat alot)....now most of the size I have I built using moderate volume(6-9 sets), training each body part every 5-7 days. but the strenght gains where not as good as they where when I trained more of a hit/DC style....so I am thinking that switching to a moderate/higher volume routine may be a good idea once in a while to see if it's possible to transfer some new strength gains to size gains
