Aren't all the Asian Arowana a protected species? Because they are near extinct or something like that??.

Protected species

As is so typical with many political decisions in this country, yes. But it is overkill. The US is one of the few prohibiting importation of this species. I'm hoping somebody from Canada chimes in. In the wild, the numbers are fairly stable, but all for sale are bred in captivity. Tons of captive born Arowanas.
It's big business in Asia. None born in captivity are released, yet if the few countries outlawing the importation coughed up some cash for a release program or at leased helped with breeding, this animal could be as plentiful as cops in a donut shop.

The last few I've seen for sale, that were actually legal, came out of California. There USED to be a breeder out there that had legally imported them (or so he says, I bet they were smuggled). Haven't heard a thing in years about them.

Canada is probably your best bet. Not 100% sure if you can go to Canada and bring one back legally. Who knows, we have so many stupid laws. I deal with that crap all the time, especially when importing corals...

I can always keep an eye out for one. I will try contacting one of my wholesalers and see if he has heard anything. Those guys always know a friend of a friend or something.
