I know there are some good bros here from the area. I am looking to surprise my family for christmas. I will be there from 12/24-1/1. Just want to show my appreciation for my AMAZING parents. Looking for any ideas of things to do... Nice resturaunts, events, places to visit etc. I would like to take them out to a very nice dinner and anything else you guys can come up with let me know. Thanks, it's a bit early but wanna get some ideas going... thanks in advance!
Any and all input appreciated.
W8:
It would be hard to go wrong with Rathbun's or Rathbuns' Steak. Chops, Bones, McKendrick are top notch steak houses. The Fish Market for Seafood. Legal Seafood also has a location downtown.
You will want to to take them to see the Georgia Acquarium, and the World of Coke right beside it. Perhaps a day trip to Stone Mountain Park. They do a pretty good job around Christmas.
The High Museum has nice show and currently have a Leornardo Da Vinci exhibit but I do not know the schedule that far out.
Sotto, Sotto for Italian. Not ultra fancy but consistently one of the best. Fritti or Baroanda for light Pizza. The Fox Theater consistently has entertaining shows at night and is walking distance from Baroanda as well.
Walking around the Virginia/Highlands area on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon is great. Lobster bisque and Oysters at Fontains's is one of the classic things to do. True inventive gelato at Paulo's also in the Highlands.
A lot of people will take a daytrip to Helen, a fake Bavarian village in the North Georgia Mountains, or go to Dahlonaga where we had our "Gold Rush".
Biplane rides at Peachtree/Dekalb airport are inexpensive and give a good view of the city.
The Sundial bar/restaraunt downtown, rotates giving a view of the city.
Unlike the other poster, I'm not a fan of Atlantic Station although I went there Friday night to view the Calvia show by one of the founders of Cirque de Solei. The have the "Bodies" exhibition in Atlantic Station as well as a exhibit "Dialogue in the Dark". The "Bodies" is amazing if you haven't seen it.
I hope this helps.
