you are entitled to your opinion, however what you say is completely wrong. there is NO FIGHTING gene. are they more aggressive than others...yes, but you have to unlease the beast so to speak. i have 2 american bulldog, which the pit was derived(sp) from and they are both 85 lbs + females...biggest pussies in the world. Can i see the aggressiveness in them? yes, in my pup, when she plays she has the most drive out of any dog...thats whats in their genes! anything like pit or american bulldog, they have a do or die attitude...that is why they can be dangerous IF they are trained to be....once they set their minds to s'thing they dont stop...especially when it comes to physical activities. My oldest (3) will just lay around and do NOTHING...doesnt chase balls...doesnt do shit...when another puppy or smaller dog comes around her, she lays on her belly and puts her head on the ground...b/c i TRAINED her to do that. i never once allowed her to get excited around other dogs....now my pup (1) is a different story, i didnt get to spend as much time with her and didnt socialize her so around other dogs she does go crazy, just wants to play though but she is HUGE and solid so it comes off as being aggressive when in fact its her 'drive' that causes her to cont. to want to go after the other dog to play......Hutch has a pure pit and it is the biggest puss to...i have seen that thing back away from his little chiauaua...where is the 'fighting gene' in Camo (dogs name)?? it really bothers me when ppl automatically jump on pits and say they are this and that....when in reality its the ppl who raise them that cause the problems...not the dogs.

They are very good family dogs and are very good with children. Males can be dog aggressive but this goes for every molosser breed. It all depends on the breeding, socialization and training.

actually, there is a bit of truth to that.

aggression in dogs can be hereditary, as there is a common form of mange that is passed on from mother to offspring - hereditary defects are quite common in breeds that are overbred (ie pitbulls, bullterriers, dalmations)

and i'd be the first to tell you that pitty's are beautiful dogs, i used to foster for a pitbull rescue here in Toronto. so this isn't an 'anti' post.

i see what you are saying but what most people think is that pits were bred to fight and kill...NOT so...any dog can be viscious...i mean they are tech. wild animals...they are not meant to be kept in homes they are meant to be wild and roam. but the dif. b/t a PIT/bulldog and a golden retriever is the 'drive' factor...bullies will do anything to get what they want and will die trying....whether it be getting that last bit of peanut butter out of their KONG (dog toy) or biting the arm off of s'one if they broke into your home...they just dont stop...that is why ppl fight them...they are extremely strong and will go 150% until the very end.

I have encountered more vicious German Shepereds than Pits. I have never been chased by a Pit but have been chased a few x by Shepereds.
Anyother breed bites someone you never here about it. I know a Bordeaux breeder who had several dogues loose in a pen just all together and as pack mentality attacked her 6yr old grandchild but never showed any agression before.
All breeds can be nasty big or little. Neo's are some of the nasiest dogs around yet you never hear a word.
