can't get video to play

i'm trying to watch a video file on my computer but it won't play. it says the windows media player encountered a problem while trying to play the file. i clicked web help and it says its error message C00D11B1. anyone know how i can fix this problem?

Do you have windows media player and perhaps some other kind of media/video software player on your computer??? Chances are this is the problem. (?) The file you are trying to open is probably a windows media player file, but another program like "realplayer" maybe the default player.

Go to your Windows media player, click on now playing, and then the little drop down arrow underneathe it. Click on "more options" then "file types"
now at the bottom right click on "select all" then apply and ok,,, chances are this will solve your problem.

If it doesn't then go to your other media player (realplayer) and recheck the box that says "make this your default player" then apply and ok, and you should be good to go. (i hope )

nah, thats not it. windows media player is my default player. i've tried windows media player, divx, realplayer...none will work.

What file extension is it: .AVI, .MPG etc? You can use Codec Viewer 1.5 to see what codecs are needed for this file if you want:
