Choices, choices.....what do I choose?

September 2 is my last day here at Cole Managed Vision. We were bought out by a well known retail company. In order for me to stay with the company I would have to move to Cincinnati. It wasn't worth it to me.

But now I have choices--choices. I will be interviewing with several companies--American Greetings, Progressive Insurance, University Hospitals, Cleveland Clinic, MBNA--which just got bought by Bank of America, Edgepark Surgical, Computer Sciences.

I never knew that the skills I have would be so marketable. I could go into banking, medical, insurance, etc.

I've never been in a situation like this before. I have a little time to decide what I want.

Before, it was just to get a job to support my family. That still applies for now...but I have choices...where do I want to go? What industry would be best?

I am excited about the possibilities....but I want to get into something that would fit me.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Di

well, if it was me

well, so many options to choose from!! if you really do have all these people barking at you, you can get into a pretty nice pissing match if you market yourself well to each company. and that pissing match would hopefully be over income and benefits.

so, with that in mind, find the job that will be the most stable and provide you with the benefits you will need. if you have children, which i think you do, then the benefits should be the most important part. unless your getting paid like 2 million a year.
progressive insurance sounds cool to me,
one thing i would mention, i dont really know if i would work at a bank. i interviewed for one once, and then after not getting the job, a friend of mine who worked for the bank filled me in that they dont pay their employees that well, unless you own the bank. so,. some food for thought.

even the surgical company sounds like an interesting idea, i would pick a job that has a high demand for, such as insurance and hospitality and surgery and stuff.

JOB SECURITY!!!

Anything involving Health care. Without a doubt. but then again you must choose what you will most enjoy.

What is it exactly that you do?

Most professions have skill-sets that are "portable", meaning they are applicable to industries outside those in which you're presently working.

I have found that the "industry" is not as important as the "company", so don't eliminate any potentially great companies simply becuase of the industry. For example, if you went to work for the biggest computer company 20 years ago then you would have gone to work for a company that is presently out of business. Remember names such as Digital, Wang, or Commodore??? That's because they were poorly run businesses that happened to be in great industries. So, find a company with great management, a vision for the future, and the capital to make their vision a reality. That's most likely where you'll be happiest.

I work in Customer Service...

with insurance background. We manage vision issurance for insurance companies (claims, eligibility, benefits, locations, etc.) I worked over a year in management (supervisor assistant.) With this type of training, I can go in just about any field in customer service.
