um, that was on our very first quiz this semester, but is the correct answer sp?? Now, if you are talking about carbon combining with 3 Hydrogens that would make the carbon an sp3. Each equivilant H would be a 1s tho. is that the answer you were looking for. make me name something. i'm better at that, tho we've only done alkanes, alkenes, and alkynes so far

Well I don't remember everything! It's only been like 10 years! LOL Cut the old man some slack! Anyway, your sp answer is fine but the more specific wavefunction I was looking for was hybrid (specifically, a sp hybrid orbital).

When it comes to problem solving I am NOTORIOUSLY obsessive! I remember a few years ago, someone gave me a "tavern puzzle" that I could not figure out. Most people don't even know what they are but anyway, I don't think I slept well for two weeks. I've solved almost every one of them I've ever tried but I never solved that one. People always ask me what the contraption on my desk is and I just say, "When you figure it out, let me know." I keep it there to remind myself that there are some problems you just have to let go.

One of these days, some wicked little prodigy is going to come into my office and solve that while I'm talking with them - and then I'll have to kill them. Either that or give them a scholarship.

ooohhh!!! I wanna see the puzzle. At work we all got into Sudoko a few years back. one of the girls has a 100 x 100 puzzle. We still argue about where certain numbers should go. I love problem solving, I think thats why I love Physics so much.
