Just saw this video and thought some of you guys might enjoy...

And just in case you've been living under a rock, Dave was a successful competitive powerlifter for over two decades. He trained with Louie Simmons at Westside Barbell Club. His best back squat was 930lbs, bench 610lbs, and deadlift 740lbs. Tate is a powerlifting specialist, and he doesn’t claim to be anything else.

The whole crossfit thing was a just a little odd for me to wrap my head around, but it does make sense for what they are looking to do... I think he is right about absolute strength and power being the one physical attribute they can increase without hurting any other areas of fitness and performance with the possible exception being flexibility.

Thats what you gotta like about Tate. Never met him, but even through the videos/articles you get that sense from him.

Good guy though i think sometimes he makes blanket statements. He made comment that periodized progressive resistance was outdated. Odd that just about every great powerlifters used those principals....ed coan, kirk karwoski, doug furnas, mile bridges, jon kuc, jon cole etc. im sorry these guys woyld have buried just about all the current guys.

Western, or linear periodization has a lot of detractors...

Louie Simmons (aka Westside Barbell, strongest gym on the planet) is one of them.

Do a little research on "The Conjugate System" and the results it's producing, and see if it doesn't make you either re-evaluate or at least think about the possibility that there's more than one way to skin a cat...

those are some of the best powerlifters ever and i have talked to coan and karwoski these guys would be strong no matter what they did geneticly gifted for powerlifting but for the rest of us westside helps you overcome some of our shortcomings by far the best for me been there on and off for years training there is unreal

Just i think remember him saying periodization is old and outdated...maybe wrong guy. To me that s like saying free wts are outdated. Odd how the russian andeaster euro powerlidters dont train with prilipen table or conjugate etc in fact almost the opposite.

Never said periodization was only way to do it ...did i ? The "russian way" isnt done by any russians. None.

I think the same can be said about voegelpoehl, hoff, panora etc. you think theyd be shit lifters without westside? Sorry to break it to you there are russians squatting 800-900 lbs raw and deadlifting the same and they have no clue what the conjugate method is..

And sorry to break it to you chuck v would be strong as shit without the conjugate method.

Unfortunately since boards tend to be mostly about drugs ppl think all these training ideas are new etc.
Chill out. My post never said he didnt know what he is talking about and never said periodization was only. Guess its not tok glamourous too people though

If every system has detractors, then why is it noteworthy to point out that he's against linear periodization (if he even said that)?

Not hating at all, just curious... All discussion is welcome brother!

And fwiw, I couldn't honestly tell you what's best, or which were better than others, was simply pointing out that there are many routes between points a and b.
