deleting a virus?

I have a virus (I think) in one of my folders that I cant delete. Anytime I open the folder its in it will freeze the computer, and if I do into the explore menu and try to delete is from there after I press delete it will freeze. Anyone know how to get this file off my computer?

First, are you running an anti-virus? If so, what kind? If you are, and it is malware, you may need to disable your anti-virus to delete it as it may have a kernel lock on it. DO NOT RUN IT or double click it while you have your anti-virus turned off.. If this still does not work, you may need to open a cmd prompt by going to Start/Run type cmd and hit enter. If the file is on your system drive then at the cmd prompt, type chkdsk /r and hit enter. It will say it cannot get exclusive use on the drive and would you like to run chkdsk at the next reboot. Type Y and hit enter. Reboot. This procedurte may be necessary because it may be that your drive index is corrupt and not allowing for allocation of that particular file handle when you try to delete it. This step would fix it if that was the case and you would be able to delete it when your computer comes back up. Get back to me with your findings and I will walk you further. Not knowing which anti-virus you are using, I can assume it is not as good as f-secure. You can uninstall your current anti-virus and install the free trial of f-secure to clean your computer from www.f-secure.com.

I am using F-secure. I purchased it for the full year but I picked up the file between when the trial ran out and when I bought the subscription and F-secure wont catch it when I do the scan. Should I try other method you wrote?

I am currently running Norton Anti Virus 2006 and Webroot Spy Sweeper 2006. Both are up for renewal but wanted to ask if they're worth renewing or if in fact I should use another! ??? Thank you!

Get rid of both and go for F-Secure. It allows you to install it on more than one computer in your home legally also.
