Dietry Fibre Question

How much fibre does a bodybuilder need everyday?

Does it increase with the total amount of calories consumed? or is 35-45g of fibre enough no matter who much protein, fat, carbs we eat.

Also if fibre slows th edigestion of proteins and some medications/supplements, when is the best time to get the bulk of outr fibre?

Breakfast or last meal of the day?

I always try and get at least 30 grams of fiber per day from leafy greens or other veggies. If I can't get in enough fiber from natural sources, I like psyllium powder 1 tbs per day. I try and get a bit in each meal to help keep things moving along. Never thopught of it as a "time of day" thing.

The only time to not want to slow the digestion of proteins is PWO when people are trying to shuttle it quickly to the muscles via high glycemic carbs. Other than that, slow steady digestion of protein would be a good thing.

Agreed!

Just like fats, fibers will slow the GI of your meals... hence less insulin released, which aside from PWO is rather a good thing for your overall health and body composition wise. The more fibers in your diet the better... may your goal be to lose fat or add muscles (I know YOU, Bluto, know that... I just speak for people "in general" :) )

Pectin found in apples and other fruits is especially good.

About the medications thing, just try to take them spaced from your meals, like upon weaking up on an empty stomach (eat breakfast about 30 mins later and you should be fine), or during the night if you get up to pee.

Taking them with a non-fibers beverage (like protein drink in milk or apple juice for example) shouldn't be a problem either.

I'm rockin a high fat, med protein, low carb diet right now. What would be a good source of fiber I could add to this nutritional plan. As of now I run 8g of bcaas, 4gs of Eaas, 3g of figh oils, and 1.5g of CLA, 10 x per day in between meals, thinking about adding some fiber that wouldn't cause an insulin spike at all??? Any suggestions?

Metamucil is one of the easiest and is a good one.

OF should know...when people get old they need all the help they can get :p :D

metamucil is good, start with one teaspoon and build up to a tablespoon, drink a ton off water when you take it since it absorbs a lot of water

my doc told me 30g day

Metamucil

Thats one thing I dont like about metamucil is the amount of water needed with it, them same goes for bread and some other dry carbs.

When carb loading and thus water depleting should fibre be kept to a minimum? And use other means to keep things flowing ie flaxseed oil, LSA meal, laxatives etc??????

Ive found I get very bloated if I have too much fibre without enough water.

I like red kidney beans best for some reason, ????? And prunes..

I have too been told 30g of fibre everyday is the right amount. But it seems strange to me that someone who could be eating pounds and pounds of meat an other proteins etc would only require the same amount of fibre as a "normal" person.

If you do go the supplement route, just be careful as some of these brands have sugar in them. So watch for that.
