I think one of the best supplements i have started taking this year is Fiber. I take sugar free metamucil 3 times a day. I just mix 1 scoop in a bottle of water and sip on it. But i would like to switch from the powder to pills. I was taking about this with my dad over christmas and he told me that the pills were really hard on his stomach and didnt work for him. He went back to the powder and threw the pills away.

Does anyone else have experience with the pills and find them comparable to the powder?

Anyways if u can't get enough from food I like FiberSmart by Renew Life and its Psylium Free.

Psylium Fiber supplements are not the best for you.

Yes, I've had a negative experience w/ the pills as well. I just use the Psyllium Husk Powder instead (I even make creations or concoctions w/ it)and eat lots of veggies too.

DF-I am anxious to see your reasoning behind this. Personally i like the psylium husk in metamucil. Is it bad for me? Also i dont have a huge appetite so eating more fibrous foods is tough for me. By the time i get my protein and other macros down i am stuffed.

Also i just looked at True Protein and they sell a psylium pill. Not sure how much psylium is in each pill though.

I take in the am and pm just a scoop just to make sure i get enough fiber
Its hard to eat enough fiber (vegies) thru the day for me.

you need to take so many pills and its expensive compared to the drink
i take the sugar free orange flaver too and its great
i think the pills are only for convienience like if you are on the road traveling
 
Yeah i just looked at the fiber content in the pills and you have to take a ton of them to equal the amount in one scoop of powder. But im still interest in the content in the True Protein pills.

Not saying they are bad for you to take... I'm saying I feel there are better fiber supplements out there that work better with the body and easier on the GI tract.
 
I find that Psyllium is very gentle on my digestive track. I eat a lot of fiberous foods and I can get gassy from all the fiber as well as bloated. The psyllium seems to calm my digestive track and never causes me any trouble, it actually seems to make it easier to eat more fiberous foods.

I take a heaping tablespoon in 48 oz of water every day.

The reason capsules are bad is because you need a ton of water in yoursystem since the psyllium absorbs a lot of water.
 
Psyllium husk has always done me well. 3 teaspoons with my last meal and the next morning...watch out. :p

It really does a great job imo of cleaning out the intestines. That goo is able to get in the creases and gaps in the intestines and clean it out throughly. This leads to better overall degestion and better nutrient uptake from your meals.

I've used the pills before, but it wasn't practical. I had to take 18 pills to equate to 3 teaspoons of the powder.
 
I have the pills with the acidophilus in them and they work great 2 with every meal, 5 meals a day.
 
Psyllium husk is very gentle for me, and the benefits are huge. I go with around a half cup a day mid-morning and it keeps things very smooth.
 
IN WHAT PART OF THE INTESTINE DOES FIBER HELP MAINTAIN HEALTHY BACTERIA?

What types of positive results are you seeing from the added fiber?

You ain't getting the added benefits of minerals, vitamins, enzymes and antioxidants you would get from green veggies and fruits if your using something like Psyllium husk. They ain't getting that for positive results.

I guess its better than no fiber.

IMO its like a person who only gets their protein from powder supplements and eats no whole food such as dairy, fish, poultry or meat.
 
psyllium fiber has the most studies behind it to be the fiber of choice. psyllium's only minor setback is that it contains all soluble fiber and no insoluble fiber which is also important. Very few supplements are better for heart health and fat loss than husks.

Soluble fiber from dextrins, pectins, brans, husks, etc. all ferment in the gut the same.
