Just turned 93 in May. Had a great life but a tough one. WW2 vet, coal mine and steel mill worker,etc... He's had 2 heart attacks, prostate cancer,etc... and still went another good 10+years, but this last year was rough. He's been fighting congestive heart failure and kidney failure. He's been in hospice 2 times and just kept fighting. Still was him same old self cracking jokes and looked fine. Still walking and everything till the last past month was the worst. he's been in hospice and all the way up until monday he was doing well but then his lungs were %90+ full of fluids and he only had about %15 kidney function and his aorta was basically almost closed. Last time I saw him was monday and its the first time he looked really bad. He was moaning and couldnt keep his eyes open. He had tons of morphine but after a while it doenst work anymore. Whats weird is I reached down to shake his hand before I left and he gave me a really hard squeeze. Like a very very hard handshake. The hospice nurse said its a way they say goodbye. Yesterday he was in pain and we were all just praying that he wouldnt die in pain. So I guess last night around 10pm he got sedated and slept very nicefully. First long night of sleep in a while and he died at 7:22am this morning in his sleep. the nurse was right there and said he went very peacefully. a few days before he died he was talking in his sleep to his mother and brothers who have been dead for years and sounded very happy and told my father yesterday about how beautiful heaven is and how he's so happy to see his mother again. Im glad he went peacefully and im glad he's with his loved ones.

im sorry for your loss. i just recetly lost my grandparents myself. at least now they are no longer in pain and suffering

its always hard to lose some1 you care about bro, but atleast hes in a better place. sounds like he was a very loved guy, a very loving guy, and a very tough guy as well. i thank him very much for what hes done for our country and he will be in my prayers as will you and your family.

Sorry to hear of your loss bro...it is tough. Sounds like the type of man that should be looked up too...a hero to say the least.

I'm sorry for your loss.

My condolences to you and your family.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. He is with the grace of God, and is in no more pain.

Sorry

Sorry for your loss.....he seemed like quite a guy.

Sorry for your loss bro. At least he left after having a rich and fullfilling life. I never knew either of my Grandfathers and wish I could ha memories like you do. My Dad died at 91 in preety much the same circumstances as you Grandfather. I know we will one day be together again. I honestly can't comprehend how those without faith in the afterlife are able to deal with the loss of loved ones. Keeping you in myprayers.

your brother in Christ,

Lucky

im sorry to hear about your loss, i wish all the best to you and your family.

May your grandpa rest in peace, fourthgen. Keep your head up bro, life is... well, tough. :(

Sorry to hear bro, sounds like he went to the school of hard knox. Our prayers are with you and your family.

That reminds me of losing my great grandmother last summer. She was 88. Never been through anything like that before and what made it even worse is I had to do it alone. The rest of the family lived far away and would not come visit. What you said about hospice and all, brings back memories. I'm sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear that:(

A long full life. I am sorry you lost him, Fourthgen.
