Hey guys,
I'm new to the board and just want to compliment such an informative forum as I have been lurking around this board for a month or so. I am soon to be 20 yrs old in a few weeks and am going to be preparing for the Emerald Cup. My question is for people who are familiar with the show. Aprox. how many people typically are in each division? and which division is usually the highest caliber? I did the Northern Golds Classic last August and won the junior mens and want to see how I stand in an open division so thats why I ask these questions. I beleive I have a body that can "morph" quite easily so the heavies, lt. heavies and middles could all be attainable, the best my condition would be is uncertain, but for all of them it should be decent at least.

Hey FutureFreak!

Glad you decided to join us - Welcome!

The last two years there were anywhere from 12 to 20 competitors in the middle, ltheavy and heavy classes. The supers seemed to be a bit light with around 6.

As you know, this is one of the larger regionals around the country. Just come in as peeled as you can get - don't worry about what class you fall in (unless you end up being like 2 pounds over).

There will be lots of members from this board at that contest (including me, if Steak gets a ticket - LOL).

cool. Yea I can definately come in shredded if I enter the very very top of the middles or the lt. heavies. I am not sure if the heavies I could come in as sharp as I would like but I just figured that the middles and the lt. heavies will consist of the typical 5 4', 5 5' guys who are as wide as they are tall and ill appear to be tall and not as thick. I thought usually the heavies tend to be taller and appear not as compact and thick? I'm 5 10' - 5 11' so I know I wont look as filled out so thats why im concerned. My last show was my first and decided to do it spur of the moment with only 7 weeks to diet! Wow, did I overkill the preparation with no off days! (only when I got sick-lol), however, I may have been depleted but I was super sharp, especially in the abs and quads. This time around I'm giving myself 12 weeks so more muscle should be preserved.

The E-Cup is one of the best and always has a great turn out. I will be there with my booth and so will alot of the members from this board. The middle, Lt Heavy class will be pretty deep with competitiors and allot of very good physics this year. I know of a few friends who are doing it who have been there before and have finished very high. Don't be concerned with the others, BRING you best package and that is all that you can ask.

Good Luck!

Wyldeone (a mod here and contest-prep guy) got 2nd in Middles last year!

I think he's about 5' 8" - all I know is he's a bit taller than me :p ;)

His pic is on the pro muscle banner

Do you guys think I should enter a open division or enter junior mens instead? I won the junior mens at the northern golds but I feel the level of competition wasnt very high. I was also mislead into think there were "nationals" or some type of championship for junior mens. I got first and my training partner got 2nd, we thought top 2 in each class qualified for nationals or some type of championship. After a few months I realized junior mens wasnt "open" and basically amounted to nothing but a trophy this is why I wanted to enter something that actually qualified you for something?

I think you're using Junior and Novice interchangeably. The Emerald is an Open Only show.

Whoa? If junior men isnt novice, what is it? Can you advance if you win it? I didnt? I emailed the promoters of the show I did and they were like "yea sorry you dont qualify for anything, only open classes do." That was my initial concern, I wanted to compete in something other than a trophy. If there is a championship advancement for winning the junior men (20 & under) I will go for that and try and kill in that division. Any info on how this works?

the couple times I went, it seems like the show is growing by the hundreds...the men's masters had 7 guys in it the first time i went. A couple years later there was 37. The open divisions have tons of top quality guys.

Like XCEL said just come in peeled and let your body do the talking.

Peeled I shall be then. Not being called out would be disappointing but oh well I guess I'll learn. If such a huge lineup is expected, I'm sure not everyone will be able to do their nightly routines? No call out (1st call outs) and no night routine would be shitty. This is all a learning experience and losing can make a person better I suppose but I'll stay humble and keep my confidence within, thanks guys I will def. will access this board for contest questions and advice, knowledgeable bros for sure.

REply

|--[\\\]>--------- You never know w/ these shows out west, great competitors come out of the woodwork it seems. The Western Regionals that were held here a couple of mths back was supposed to be 'bigger' than the open (more competition) but it turns out that the open state show ended up being a better show IMO. Good luck to you and aim high, you will only get better as you move on.

congrats on doing so well your first time out FutureFreak, like it was said already, there are lost of us from promuscle that are planning on going to the emerald. i've got two buddies from my gym that'll be competing in the light heavies, and heavies. they've both done real well in the past...here's a pic of the better of the two, he placed 2nd in the middles in '02. awesome back!

There's the Junior Nationals and I don't believe an age is associated with his.

At most "local" BB contests they'll have either Open and Novice or just Open or just Novice. They may also add a Teen or Collegiate. At 20, your too old to be a teen :) (They do have a teen class at the Emerald). I don't believe there's an age associated with Collegiate other than they might complain if I entered a Collegiate class :p

No collegiate class at the Emerald.

Isnt the junior class the the E cup 21 and under? Its usually a very good class for such young guys. The E cup is a good show, I will see you all there.

Sorry FutureFreak

Guess I'm just showing my age

There is a Junior Class (20 and under) at the Emerald Cup - **broken link removed**

Yes I was aware of that, I have the contest application. I think I'll post up some pics from my last show to see what you guys think? My wheels are tiny so I will expect some ridicule, however I only dieted for 7 weeks and wasnt even "bulkng" or bulked when I dieted so it was spur of moment thing and this time I am 26 lbs heavier than when I started last year and at the same leaness.

I hope this shows up? morning before pre-judging...

Looks like you got the conditioning part down bro. Good luck!

Good!

Looks like you came out pretty tight. Just keep adding on more size and it'll happen for you bro.
