I just got thinking on this topic after seeing a picture on ogrish.com that makes me never want to squat more than 315 again. Guy rips his shorts and shoots his guts right out his ass. Picture makes me gag, don't look unless you got a really strong stomach for it. Damn, you guys probably dont even want to see this cause it's fuckin with MY head but, http://poetry.rotten.com/weightlifter/

I've never heard of a hernia involving anything but the abdominal wall and the testicles. Has anyone had a hernia due to squats, deadlifts, or anything? I've always avoided going heavy on these lifts for fear of them. My dad has an abdominal hernia which worries me, thinking genetically. If one were to pop a hernia, is there effective operations these days that can be done for repairs back to 100%?

one type of hernia is when your insides pop through your external muscle lining. Like if an internal arterie were to pop through your bicep to the skin.

Thanks for the warning bro....I'm gonna puke now.

seriously though I got an abdominal hernia from do close grip benches about two years ago. It's about the size of a marble right above my belly button right inbetween two ab muscles.
went to the dr and he said it wasn't anything to be concerned with as long as it's not constricting the intenstines. he said an abdominal hernia is when your bowels push through the abdomin muscle walls.( sounds f***in nasty) I was told it's a very easy surgery to have it removed but I didn't have insurence at the time so i still have the hernia. I hate it cause when I drop the bodyfat pretty low I can see it a little and it disrupts the abdominal separation.
I would like to have it removed someday.

Hope this helps a little

Thanks for the info Stomper1 (RomperStomper?). My dad's is between his abs too but up higher and alot bigger than a marble.

Are hernias the result of having weaker abdominal muscles than needed for the other lifts? For example, I've heard a guy said he did only front squats for a long time, then switched to back ones. His hams couldnt keep up with his quads when he went heavy on the back squats and he hurt one.
Maybe doing weighted sit-ups (which i dont do now) would reduce the chance of popping a hernia while squatting?
