Hip problems

Does anyone else ever experience hip problems when they are squatting??? When I get to the bottom and start back up sometimes my hips feel like they are going to pop out of socket.

What can I do to fix this problem? I have already stopped all heavy squatting and am just going to slowly build back up.

STRETCH STRETCH AND STRETCH. Then look at the ancillary muscle that are used in this exercise, look and see if your having a problem with any of them. Sometimes it's not what ya think but something that is close to it and you can over compensate for it. My squat is slowly coming back around, my cause is a weak lower back at this point. Just something to think about.

Yes. I have hip problems in general. The first thing is to check your feet. What shoes are you wearing? Second, check the arches of your feet. Do they hurt? If so one could be flatened causing your hips to rotate.

How do you squat?
Feet just past shoulder width, toes pointed slightly outward and I go a few inches below parallel. Does this help?

I have been trying to stretch anything around my hips and my hips in general. I will look into it being overcompensating for a weak point. Thanks.

My feet and everything feels fine. I wear a wrestling style shoe or sometimes even Crocs.

I'm starting to wonder if having my toes pointing outward could be the problem. Maybe I will try to keep them pointed straight next time to see if I feel a difference.

You may just be like me and be cursed genetically. My dad had hip problems since he was a kid and so have I. Like it's been said stretching and just working on your flexibility in general is going to be the thing to help you the most. Also I like to use the hip abductor and adductor (yes the girly machines) to warm up before I squat.

I will definitely try using the abductor machines, I don't care if I look like a sissy in the gym if it keeps my hip safe, I'm all for it. :D

Do whatever it takes, I had all those symptoms you describe and carried on training heavy. Was training legs and 3rd rep on a heavy set on hack squat felt a tear. It took six years to correct it, go see a chiropractor just make sure they area reptual one.

Wow, now I'm really glad I went with the lighter weight so far. I have a family friend that is a chiropractor and used to be a solid powerlifter so I will give him a call. Thanks bro!

Did not mean to freak you out, your injury has not hurt you. So you are ok, see what the chiro says and maybe prevention could be the best course. I had something simular to what you say and wish I had never trained heavy that day. The phyiso I use is always telling me to work my core more, to take the stress of the lower back. Your best to get it checked out, most likley nothing but why take the risk.

My thoughts are about your base of support. I would suggest a hip-width stance with your toes pointing in their natural direction (the way they point when you walk or stand naturally) and to stop just slightly higher than parallel to reduce the transfer of force into the hips/glutes.
I think having an decreased Q angle (feet wider than hips) while squatting will place more stress in the average person's hip joints.
As Armageddon pointed out - stretch, stretch, stretch.

That sucks bro.Take the advice from above posts.Warm up with hip abductors and adductors.Check your stance and shoes.Dont be a hereo listen to your body.I myself had a total hip replacement when i was 21.Three years of chemo-therapy destroyed my right hip.It took 1 whole year to fully recover when i was 21.I am now 37 and have very strong big legs.Lift modereate weight until you can be stronger down the road.My rountine for legs is as follows, warm up with leg extensions and hamstrings 2 exercises for both 15 reps. Then i hit the leg press machine for 4 working sets of 8-reps,all the way down till it reaches your chest.Try lying down on leg exercises for awile.extensions, leg press.AS soon as you get strong on those exercises try squats later on.You dont have to squat to get big legs.Listen to your body the great thing about a gym is the different variations in exercisde.I dislocated my hip when i swung and hit a punchining bag at gym. They had to carry me out on strectcher. The next day after they popped it in ,i returned to workout with a brace on my hip.Never quit always find a way.hope this helps.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I am going to see the chiro on Sat. so hopefully he can give me some more advice, especially since he was a powerlifter for 20+ years and has a soon that still powerlifts today. I really just hope it's nothing serious and I caught it early enough to prevent anything long term damage wise.

Again thanks everyone and I will let everyone know what happens after the doc.
