injured my back doing light shrugs

I was on my 2nd set, recovering from a pec tear so everything is light I was doing 225 and i lean forward so the bar doesnt shrug my nuts. i felt a tweak in my mid to lower back after my set. i then decided to call it a day and not risk reinjuring it. it was not terrible pain but more of a tweak, tightness.

this was 3 days ago. i am not in pain and am able to cardio, but when i do movements that i need to rotate my torso, or stoop down, i definatley feel some dull pain in my mid to lower back.

does this sound like a strain or a spine injury?

any idea on how long I will be out for?

so far in the past 2 months i have had, pec minor tear, heart problems, injured wrist, injured nut (epidimitus), and now this :mad:
 
i happens to me from time to time. goes away too. thank god.
 
Same thing happened to me doing the exact same thing trying not to crush the boys. Felt it go put down the weight and left. Had the same dull pain for about a week then it was gone. I did just ease back into it just incase though.
 
thanks guys. did you switch the way you did shrugs after? my Physical therapist i see for my chest reccomended dumbells. it just seems like an awkard positon to be shrugging in.
 
Try 600mg Ibuprofin (Motrin, Advil, they're all the same) and a muscle relaxant such as Lorazapam, Diazapam, Soma, etc. This combination should take care of the problem pretty quick. Don't forget to stretch those muscles!

Shit bro, tell me about it!!! I'm nursing a partially torn pec and fucked up wrist as well. :mad: As for you tweaking your back, it's your muscle. I've had it before doing shrugs. You'll be fine, just ice it down and take anti-inflammatories.

Hey bro, what did you do to the pec? Did you have an MRI and it is def torn? Mine turned out to be a grade 2 strain of the pec minor and it is recovering pretty well, im just adding 10lbs per week to by bench this is what my therapist says to do.

And as for your back, how long were you out for? Was yours as serious as mine?
 
We all probably from time to time experience this...unless you had a specific spine injury you can bet it is a soft tissue injury, aka strian, etc.

No mri because there was no bruising. Not sure if it was muscle or tendon but it was definately strained. It feels a lot better now after a week. As for my back getting tweaked, it was pretty painful, but over time it went away. If I were you I'd take a week off from lifting and see how your back feels.

Never let that heavy weight get out in front of you on shrugs, even a small amount, for the same reason you wouldn't do that in a deadlift pull. It puts unnecessary strain on your back. If you are crushing the family jewels, use dumbells instead and keep your back straight.

it feels fine at rest, and even when doing cardio, but turning my torso or reaching down (when sitting and standing) it is tight and it hurts.:(
 
Believe me, if it was spine injury you would know. Physical therapy might be worth looking into or a Chiro. You need to stretch this out as much as possible and use ice every few hours.

It's not a spinal injury from what you're saying. It's a bad strain. Mine was on my inner back next to the shoulder blades. I hurt when I tried to breathe. I hope your icing it down and taking some advil. ;)
