like can the cops/feds look into your hotmail or yahoo?

Hell no. If you even consider using AAS, get safe-mail or something similar. Even requesting a list should be done on encrypted email. Yahoo, AOL, hotmail-all dangerous

I hear the best for that aspect is securenym, but it costs money, like $50/yr or something.. I just use safe-mail personally.

Well...........

Technically nothing is secure if they have a warrant................

A warrant isn't gonna do shit if you have securenym.. They're overseas and their whole thing is providing utmost security, privacy, and safety.. They don't keep any logs so they'd have no info for authorities, and everything is encrypted with each person's OWN private security key..

Securenym

Securenym servers are located in the United States. They are not located overseas.

False. They may use some servers in the US, but they are not based here.

SecureNym is a closely held offshore corporation, with multi-national ownership and no ties to any government, U.S. or otherwise.

Well hell, they better not have any ties to any particular government :)

The location of servers is an important issue, since IP info can be subject to subpoena. All their "whois" info seems to point to the US but that doesn't mean there servers are necessarily here. Be nice to know for sure, though...

Confused

The name servers all track back to a Data Center in the USA. They are subject to U.S. Law. I'm not sure what happens when the US government sends a subpoena based on IP and they tell them to either F#$# off or we don't log. From what I understand there are certain requirements that ISP's must log. I'm not sure on strictly mail based services

I don't know that much about the topic, but I don't think a warrant or subpoena would yield much no matter what.. Cuz they don't save any emails or info on users, and the info that does go thru is encrypted with security keys individual to each user.. So even though they're using some gateway servers in the US, they'd basically say hey, we can't help you. This is taken from their site.

Your privacy and security are our business; our ONLY business. We use the latest Sun and Linux servers, hardware, and software towards this end. All equipment is owned, operated, and in the full control of SecureNym.

Our privacy policy is VERY simple. We log nothing, other than simple server stats which allow us to know how much traffic we have. There are no user logs, access logs, and no message backups. When a user subscribes to our service, he is given a computer generated key which allows him to log in at any time and create his account. The subscriber is responsible for payment of charges if the key sent to him has been used.

It is our stated policy to provide NO information about any user. The reality is that we cannot, as we have no information to provide to any party, including those who may have a court order or other legal instrument.

In the unlikely event that our U.S. based gateway servers are seized, and the user is using PGP as we recommend, any messages on the servers would still be unreadable. We are NOT a trusted third party. We NEVER have a copy of anyone's private key. All messages residing on the server are fully encrypted with YOUR key, not ours and all connections to SecureNym are SSL.

We do NOT operate a free service. We do NOT harvest mail addresses from users. We do NOT sell mailing lists. We do NOT sell or allow any banner advertising. We do NOT tolerate spam in any form.

We DO provide a secure, anonymous mail service.

If you are breaking the laws of your country then none of them are safe!!!

Seems like everyone used to say Hush and Cyber-rights were safe along with zip lip way back when. When ORD went down nothing was safe! Supposedly their servers were offshore but they handed info over quickly to LE. The safest bet is to use a key encrypted email with only you and the recipient sharing the key for the email. If your breaking the law and your popped the gov will find a way to get your email info, there is no sure fire way to prevent that. Be smart and deal with known trusted suppliers and try and stay on top of things is the best way to have a long run in this game.

This cracks me up!

Everyone who is saying that they do it this way or that. LE can't get anything from them. Open your eyes to the world around you people. Get a clue. The internet is no longer anonymous, everything is trackable, unless you are a hacker and can cover your tracks very well, but even they usually get caught. Don't conduct illegal activities via e-mail, and you have nothing to worry about.

I'm pretty sure the people saying court orders and the like wouldn't do anything...well must have never dealt with the legal system personally. Look at ORD the US prosecuted and arrested people from different countries. Give me a break.

Argue with me all you want. If you play the game, you roll the dice. Its all chance. I don't care if the server is on the moon, if u are usiung the service to conduct illegal activity, you better believe the powers that be can and will gain access to it. If nessacery.
