Muscle knot in back of shoulder help? Killing me!

1st post guys and appreciate all the great information. I have a persistent problem with my right shoulder blade with the muscle tightening up like a ball. I have been to massage therapists and nothing seems to work.

Starts in the middle of my shoulder blade and runs up my neck. Any ideas on how to get rid of it? Driving me NUTZ!!! Can't workout like I should be able to.

Im not doctor or anything but i think we are experiencing the same problem. I talked to my therapist and he told me part of my genetics is getting really broad shoulders from my dad. I dont have the average range of motion say when i lift my shoulders straight and experience similar pains once they are overworked. exercises such as dumbbell incline press are near to impossible because of the pain but i fight through it and take down the weight but ad reps. Another suggestion is to separate workout days that involve your shoulders. This is kinda had because almost ever think involves your arms but say chest and bis one day then do legs and then go back to back or shoulders. I have had the same thing for a year and a half, I had constant pain up through my neck and down my clavicle.
I went to PT, massage therapy, and finally chiro helped.
But I went to a chiro who didn't help first, before I found one who helped, so make sure you go to a very good chiro.
I also use a lot of ultrasound ( I bought a home unit for $125) and that has helped a lot.
I also had to examine my workout form on chest and shoulder exercises extremely closely, and found that I was engaging my neck way too much during some exercises.
I totally changed my chest exercise form and made sure that my chest was doing all the work, and I mentally relax my neck as well during chest and should exercises.
All of these together has given me relief finally.
 
i also get a lotta pain in my upper back/neck area... Not sure exactly what's causing all your particular pain, but if its from am overly tight muscle you could try using a back buddy massage cane to rub out the knot
 
knot in shoulder

I know it stems from the work I used to do and it caused the inflamation and was repititious. I was thinking of going to a sports medicine doctor and have him look at it. I have made a point on good form and to be careful not to overstrain it.

Currently usung a bow flex and want to hit the weights again. Almost 40 but this deal drives my crazy sometimes. I wonder if the muscel just has so much memory it will release some and then go back to the way it is.

You could have in impinged nerve that is causing the muscle to spasm.
 
I have the same problem and it drives me fuckin crazy! I have tried massage, stretching, meds, etc. I currently use warm, moist heat nightly. The only time it really doesn't hurt is when I am active or at the gym, when I sit and rest, bam, that nagging deep muscle ache comes back!

I agree 100% does not bother me after working out and then after stopping or a night of rest BAM!!! I have used a small dumbbell and even a tennis ball and it seems to work for a little while then right back where it was. You can actually see the fricking knot on my back!
 
I get the same thing and what i found it when I am stressed to the max , the knot is there within 10 min and it takes a week or two to go away,as we speak i have the knot so any tricks would be great!!!!!
 
Have you tried acupuncture? I had a similar problem and nothing seemed to help, massage and chiro. Went to an acupuncturist and it went away and has not been back.

Went today for the 1st time for some acupuncture. Feel pretty good after it. Told me the muscle balls up and will actually pull your spine in different directions and that will cause pain as well. Did some coping? Suction to raise the blood up and relieve tension. Go back on Monday for another session.
 
Shit, I might have to give that a try!!!!
