Need help with my diet so I can beat insulin resistance...

Here is the diet I will be starting this Monday to beat
my insulin resistance. I did try to beat this thing before
but got kicked in the nuts when I found out my wife cheated
on me.

I need your expert feedback so I can get healthy.

30 minutes on the treadmill

Breakfast:

four egg whites mixed with one packet of grits and one
slice of smart beat cheese.

Snack:

Whey protein shake

Lunch:

One chicken breast with one cup brown rice

Snack:

Whey protein shake

Lift

Dinner:

Chicken breast with a salad

Snack:

1/4 cup almonds

30 minutes on treadmill

Let me know what you think. I really want to beat this and
finally have my head on straight.

Should have posted this information along with my other
info.

I am 33 yo

5'8" at 230 lbs at about 17% bf.

I have by-polar disorder and have been flat on my ass
depressed for the past nine months from the situation with
my wife.
 
Well, that would definitely work if you can stick to it. For your size it looks like a pretty small amount of carbs (and protein). I think you will probably have to start out with more carbs and decrease the amount over the next 4 weeks or so. If you start out this low, I think you will probably end up in a MAJOR carb craze and stuff yourself with cake and icecream in a couple days or so. Unless of course you have already been tapering off the carbs. I'd add more protein too.

First of all, I am sorry to hear about your situation with your wife, keep your head up...life will go on. I am sure you alreaady knwo this, but just wanted to reiterate.

Second, I knwo nothing on the subject of fighting insulin resistance, and am curious to know how you know YOU are insulin resistant. Thanks

How much protein would you recommend for me to loose the
weight and maintain muscle?

I have cut my carbs drastically. When I was depressed and
did not give a shit about nothing I was drinking a case of
Pepsi every three days, eating nearly a pound of pasta in
one sitting at least twice a week, amongst other bad foods.

Now I don't drink pop/soda, eat only a serving of pasta,
and never eat chips or junk food. I think I can handle the
diet I laid out, but if things get too bad, I will add more
carbs.

HELLA SWOLE I was diagnosed with insulin resistance about a
year ago when I went in for a physical and full blood
workup. My doctor said that my triglycerides were about
three times what they should be, my bad cholesterol was way
up, and my good cholesterol was low. I have a fatty liver
and need to exercise more.

I am a online marketing consultant and all I do is sit
and type, or talk on the phone.

Reguarding your diet issue, I am going to turn you to Phil Hernon on this one . His diet recomendations would work very well for you and your condition . [ I have abit of an understanding of his methods and I am in total agreement of what he does ].His methods would also improve your health as well .[ the most important thing ] I can give you ideas via PM if you want , but honestly Phil could really design a great diet for you . [ he is not expensive and is worth it, I promise ] And no I am not a client of his or even a close friend . I am just someone that has a great amount of respect and admiration for the man .[ not just for his knowledge ,but for him as person as well ] He cares about health and is very knowledgable of needs to be done to opptimize it .[ he would help you come up with something that is healthy , safe , and productive for you ] PM him and see if he might help you , also his friend Bigbaldbulldog might be able to answer some questions for you .[ he is just a great person as well ]

You didn't tell us when the bad diet was going on. If you were eating all those carbs about the time the test was taken, you would show insulin resistant, The resistance would change when you stopped eating like shit. Just eat healthy and drop shit food. I'd add protein ike BBJ said, too. I'm sure Phil or anybody else can explain more but the only thing I get from dropping carbs is thin and not hungry. I don't get shitty or sleepy or anything else. I also don't gain strength or muscle. It sounds like you're eating sensible and that'll do most of the diet for you. If you're bi-polar, be careful not to swing the other way, too. If you're taking something for it, keep taking it.
 
If it's getting bad, use metformin. I think everyone should be on it anyway to prevent insulin resistance and as such type II diabetis.

You need to look into the ZONE diet. This is exactly what you need. It will improve all of the things you are talking about.

You can pick up the books on this diet at most books stores.

You can read about the diet a bit here as well as well as purchase the books too. I'd really recomend reading one of the books. its always easier to follow something if you know "why" you are doing it. Mastering the Zone is a good one as well as 100 best zone foods.

For all your help!!

My condition has got to the point that I am getting hyper-
pigmentation under my arms and around my neck. Looks like
a bruise that is starting to go away. You know that yellow
blue discoloration.

I get pretty frequent headaches and sometimes feel like
my blood pressure is going to blow the top of my head off.
This usually occurs when I eat too much carbs in one
sitting.

I really, truly thank each and every one of you from the
bottom of my heart. You are literally saving my life and
giving me the opportunity to get healthy. I have two
daughters I promised I would walk down the isle, and if I
don't get this under control I'll be dead before they
get out of high school.
