nicotine patch for fatloss?

anyone ever use a nicotine patch for fatloss? apparently some guys have great success with it.
 
I must say that while dieting nicotine did seem to give my fat loss a little boost. The sweet buzz is an added benefit. But never take a patch and immediately put back on if you like not feeling like vommiting.
 
It works great - and has a synergic effect with caffeine - but be prepared to crash SEVERLY when you stop.

What you can do to minimize that crash is to slowly tapper... let's say you're using a 14mg patch daily, when you're ready to stop take a 7mg for one week or 10 days, and then 1 or 2 nicotine gums a day for a few days.

Should to the trick. :)
 
I've heard Nicotine gum has a noticeable appetite suppressing effect. Any truth to this?
 
I have used the gum with great results. The patch can make you woozy and sick to your stomach if you are not a regular smoker which most of us are not. The patch also gave me horrible vivid nightmares. 2mg nicorette will work much better with less sides from my experiences.
 
I'm such a pussy with nicotine... Too much makes me sick.

I dabbled with the gum a little bit before my last show and if I took too much I was light headed, sweaty, and sick to my stomach. Same thing happened when I would smoke a cigarette back in high school or college. I actually threw up after dipping once because it messed me up so bad. Me and nicotine are not friends.
 
I've never had a drop of nicotine in my body. Never a cigarette, cigar or anything. I have read about this a ton of times but it scares me. And it is expensive.

Awesome, I guess I'll be picking up a carton of Marlboro reds. Nothing like hotboxing a cig and then doing a bunch of squats.
 
Use caffeine one tab along with 100mg piece of gum will elevate body temperature. I'm never used the patch but it sounds easier.

Really? I remember reading about nicotine for fatloss in bb mag back in the mid 90s. Read a lot about it on different bb forums the past 10 years. Posted about on this forum too numerous times.

It's thermogenic and anorectic and has a bunch of potentially beneficial hormonal effects wrt fat loss. Caffeine is synergistic.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Nicotine replacement therapy limits weight gain after smoking cessation. This finding is partly attributable to the thermogenic effect of nicotine, which may be enhanced by caffeine. OBJECTIVE: We assessed the acute thermogenic effects of chewing gum containing different doses of nicotine and caffeine. DESIGN: This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study included 12 healthy, normal-weight men (aged 18-45 y). Energy expenditure was measured with indirect calorimetry before and 2.5 h after subjects chewed each of 7 different types of gum containing the following doses of nicotine/caffeine: 0/0, 1/0, 2/0, 1/50, 2/50, 1/100, and 2/100 mg/mg. RESULTS: The thermogenic responses (increases over the response to placebo) were 3.7%, 4.9%, 7.9%, 6.3%, 8.5%, and 9.8%, respectively, for the gums containing 1/0, 2/0, 1/50, 2/50, 1/100, and 2/100 mg nicotine/mg caffeine (P < 0.05 for all). Adding caffeine to 1 and 2 mg nicotine significantly enhanced the thermogenic response, but changing the caffeine dose (from 50 to 100 mg) did not change the thermogenic effect. None of the combinations changed the respiratory quotient compared with placebo, which indicates that glucose and fat oxidation rates were increased to a similar extent. Side effects occurred only with 2 mg nicotine. CONCLUSIONS: One milligram of nicotine has a pronounced thermogenic effect, which can be increased by approximately 100% by adding 100 mg caffeine. Increasing the nicotine dose to 2 mg does not increase the thermogenic effect but produces side effects in most subjects. Caffeine may be useful in preventing weight gain after smoking cessation if its thermogenic effect can be used to enhance nicotine's effect on long-term energy balance.

Maybe. Depends. Not as addictive as smoking for a variety of reasons. If you never smoked before I don't think it's very addictive if used for a few weeks, let's' say at the end of a contest prep. Have recommended it to a couple of competitors and they had no problems stopping it. YMMV.

Look for a sale on 4mg. I found 100 pieces for $29.
I can only handle about 1mg at a time so 1 piece equals 4 doses for me. I just bite off a quarter at a time and chew another piece of some gum I like. I guess I am a nicotine pussy too.
About the addictive thing, not for me. When I was done cutting I had no desire for that sick feeling it providess. Defnately kills the appetite...
 
I tried this before but could not get past the nausea and light-headedness I got everytime I chewed a piece. I used the off-brand of Nicorrette (Equate version) since it was a lot cheaper.

wouldnt starting off at 14 mgs right off the bat, especially if you were not used to nicotine, cause massive nausea/headaches? just curious. not to hijack the op's thread lol :) but phidias i like your tapering method.. would you recommend starting off at 14 mgs though? or lower.
 
Be careful with this stuff not just because of the addictive qualities, stick a couple of the big 21mg patches on yourself as someone not acclimated to nicotine and you have a fairly good chance of coming down with a case of the dead the next day. 17 have died from the patch so far according to the FDA.

You're absolutely right on this one, natabolic! By any means 14mg is NOT a low dose of nicotine... so even though that's what I do cause I'm now used to the sides, that's not what I'd recommend to a first time user.

One 7mg patch daily is a much "safer" way to start, as it will enable guys to assess their tolerance.

The most noticeable undesirable side effect IMO is the mood changes you're experiencing on it, especially after a few weeks: you either become really relaxed, almost stone lol :p, or you get irritable and aggressive for no apparent reason :eek: ... both happened to me, so you never know what to expect... :cool:
