any company i have ever worked for pushes "continuing education." not necessarily leaving to go back to school but training sessions either in house or by an outside consultant. all of these training sessions for myself have been written off as an training expense to the company. i would think the same goes for you, especially if the training is directly related to your field.
if this is a training that you found yourself and want you may have to apply for the session through your HR department. many companies have certain forms that need to be signed by you suggesting that if they pay for the class you will need to be there and "pass that certification or class." they just want to cover their asses so they arent paying for something that you missed and got a free flight to ... for example you found a training session located in hawaii and managed to get on the flight but forgot about the class haha.
