OT: Look what I found last night..

Me and a training partner were out driving, I was teaching him how to drive a stick! And we stopped for gas and stumbled on this guy. It was huge, black and yellow, and and awesome web builder. Any one know what type of spider this is, venomous or not? Pic was taken with an iPhone so not the best quality.

Down here we have a spider that GROWS HUGE. It spins webs that span trees and catches and eats small birds. It is called the bird eating spider! What else? LOL

From what I can tell by the pic..it sorta looks like a Banana Spider. I live in Florida and I see them everywhere during the summer usually around this area! Black and yellow and very large! -StOrY

Banana spiders live in thick wooded areas and way high up in the trees. Plus they are 5 times larger and nastier looking than the one in the picture. Plus I've never seen their webbing to look anything like that either.

ahhhh memories of my childhood. these big fellas used to set up shop in my dads garden and we would go out and feed them grass hoppers after supper.

While birds are not its' primary food source it is know to eat them and take them from nests.
It gets as big as 8-9 inches in body and leg span. A big spider. It has fangs that can be up to four inches long and is venomous.

Yep bird earting spiders are the biggest.
and that other ugly bastard,I see thoses guys only at night
they'll start spinning there webs just before dark. Can't remember
what they are but are very aggressive.
Any way dosen't matter to me, I'm scared to death of all spiders
big or small.

irish, i had to deal with those nasty bastards when i was in iraq. trust me, they are the most disgusting creature that has ever walked the face of the earth... we used to get scorpions and throw them in an ammo can for a big fight to the death..
