I am just finishing a 12 week weight training program. I am in my late 40's and wanted to take the next step and hire one of the professional trainers here to help coach me to reach the next optimal level in my training and my diet. I have been training my whole life and I just wanted to see if I can actually reach some personal goals stated below in my signature. If I do fine, if i don't I am not going to worry about it; at least I tried.

The only medication/therapy I am on is Androgel prescribed by my Doc. At my age I just want to see how ripped I can get and easily maintain my BF% and muscle weight. Up to this point I am happy with my results.

Phil and the other guys are recommended throughout this forum. However, I was hoping to get some feedback from guys within my age group and their experiences with one of these pros. Thanx in advance for your feedback. :D
 
I will be 50 at the end of this month. Look up top at my avatar on featured member. I used Alex Azarian to get that lean. I am currently lean, but have put on some good muscle size.
 
I just turned 46 and have been training with Phil since April.
I've been training since I was 12 pretty much non-stop, Phil is the first person I've ever hired to actually steer me.

Couldn't be happier.

Wow, extremely impressive at 46/50. It goes to show you that hard work in the gym does pay dividends even at our age.

Alex and Phil come up time and time again here. I have heard nothing but good things about both pros. I really never considered using a trainer on-line until I joined the forum. So I am going to pull the trigger next week.

Question: Were you guys able to accomplish your goals working alone in the gym? I always feel like I need a training partner to make that next jump in muscle gains only for spotting during sets to failure. Maybe it is just psychological for me. I always play back great days when I feel I have made some strength gains and then I start thinking about the days I fail on the bench press or even worse the seated military press or squat rack. It truly is a psychological thing for me, and I tend to go lighter because of my fear of failure and possible injury.
 
I've trained alone in my well equipped basement for over 20 years.
Sometimes I had a partner for a few weeks but they never last.

I was able to compete at a fairly successful level in powerlifting while training this way. The only help was my wife and/or sons helping with straps and shirts.

You can accomplish whatever you motivate yourself to do. Isn't that what this is all about anyway??

You are right Dens. I have always wondered about the training to failure issue.

Power rack, Spud straps from Elite, dumbells, smith machine.......I've dumped many a bar and lived to tell the tale...LOL
