is it true that you have elevated body temperature when in overtraining?...i read this article somewhere about taking your morning temperature to see if youre overdoing it and was wondering if there is any truth to this?...alex

Yes your morning body temperature is important. Too low can show Thyroid problems.

I've also read that a higher body temperature could be the result of having a higher metabolism.

can happen yes

lol I'd have to say no to that one. Body temp average is what, 98.6 + or - 1degree is normal. If your body temp is abnormal then you'd have something else going on, and that wont last for long before some bad happen.

yes it can happen as well as a slightly elevated pulse

I had heard that you were supposed to take your body temp and pulse first thing in the morning and if elevated you might possibly be overtraining. Just a theory as far as I am concerned.

I've also seen where you can monitor overtraining by checking white blood cell count. You need a microscope, and a grid slide. White cell count can drop by as much as 15% when over trained. (Or so they say) It seems like a lot of work to me though.

Easiest way is when you feel like a slug climbing out of bed dragging
your ass to the gym.

There are two different overtraining. There is whole body overtraining and there is specific muscle overtraining. Only one I've had experience with is specific muscle overtraining. Is when you train a muscle too often and dont let enough time for it to recoup, the result is a sore muscle for a good 2 months even on a cycle. The soreness stays and it hurts. I've had this happen to biceps, abs, rear delts and front delts. You just dont pay attention until it happends. :)

the whole body overtraining would be your nervous system being taxed example: 2 a days for any one that has played footbal, or training extremly heavy with wieghts day after day with no rest...

the second type of overtraining you speak of can lead to your nervous system being taxed if is not corrected, example training lags 3-4 days in a row..

some muscles have a quicker recovery ability than others, usually the smaller ones you speak of, legs back and chest probably need more!

I have never heard of the overtraining being linked to increased body temp. but I see how you could come to that conclusion inderctly..

that sounds weird, you kept training it week after week and so it was sore the whole time or you stopped and it stayed sore???

In recent yrs this has changed..The ave bodytemp is now recognized at 98.3, not 98.6

It stays sore for a good 2 months, weither you train the muscle or not. But if you do train, the load you will use is like half of what you would actually do.
The overtraining soreness usually comes in suddenly and not gradually. I noticed it one week and didnt think anything of it-my front delts-second week I trained the same and then few days after it hit me. So it's like death coming up behind you, sudden, not gradual.
