after using diuretcs for a show for 3 days when you rebound and gain all the water back are your muscles supposed to cramp up and be sore? my calves and hams are sore/cramped.how bout numbness in the fingertips? i read that screwed up potassinum and sodium levels can cause this. has anyone had anything like this happen???
i went from 195 to 218 today. thats in 5 days. or maybe my pec minor is cramping up putting pereassure on a nerve?? im not in any pain or anything just feels strange.

I am with you big dog, I am getting all swole as we speak! LOL, I have minimized thedamage this year by watching my salts ( sodium, potassium) and drinking a TON of water... Since my show on Sat night where I drank 2 huge Sprites, I have had about 5-7 diet drinks and the rest water, trying to flush this stuff out as the past two years I have had serious water retention problems after my shows.... I am not nearly as bad this year as in years past where I didn't follow any type of post contest protocol.... I can thank Strongmind for kicking me in the butt this year and making me follow her plan which has worked really well thus far.

You should have a plan in place before the show to ramp things down in a controlled manner post contest. Everything you take should be ramped down between a few days after the show up to a month after the show for some things. Post contest is an incredibly vulnerable time for the body and the immune system is compromised probably more post contest than even the last week of the show.

Everyone laughs at how much weight they gain after a show but this isn't terribly funny when you look at the mechanisms involved and what the body undergoes during this massive weight gain. The strain on the kidneys and the heart, alone, is crazy.

Your postcontest plan should be as well thought out and planned as your plan, precontest. Again, I want to emphasize that your health should never take a backseat to your conditioning.

Skip....one time, a while back, Aaron R. had told me he gained 70 lbs the week after the show. He said it felt like he was having heart attacks and stuff. No need for that!

Yeah I have learned the hard way and I have minimized the damage this year alot as I have only gained 18 pounds and today have started to come down some more from the rebound, The last two years I have gained upwards of 40 pounds after my show and swore to myself and my family that watched me go through that misery that I wouldn't do that to myself again.....I will be in touch Skip, plan on getting a PM from me this weekend...

I can tell you last year after my show I gained roughly 15lbs and that was between Saturday night and Tuesday morning. The one thing I will say that really saved me was not going crazy with the junk food. I think the worst thing I ate was a Baja Fresh bowl on sunday. After about a week and a half the water retention was really getting bad and I peaked at about 218 but I realized I was not drinking near enough water. Water in = water out.....Ill never make that mistake again after a show.

??

how long does it take for the body to regulate itself??? i have cut back on junk and sugars, but i guess im not drinking enough water. should you just stop diuretics? or taper them? also if your not training should you still use gear? and when you start again should you switch or continue and ramp off??

I taperd everything (Skip is 110% on the money on that) and used Demedex once the day after. I took zero days off from the gym by the way and also continued with some cardio sessions afterward too. I know cardio is the last thing you want to do right now but it really helped. I thought I was drinking enough water but indeed I was not. I bumped it to over two gallons a day and things started to take care of itself. It took me about two weeks to start feeling better where I knew that my body was getting back to homeostasis. I really made a good effort to not take in too many simple sugars and sodium. That seemed to make things way worse. I just know that continuing to use diuretics for days and days after is a bad bad idea. Upping the water intake did it for me.

a big mistake

i made the same mistake after my first show i took a lasix in the morn and one more before the night show, now after eating clean and drinking a ton of water all you want to do after a show is eat shit and drink pepsi, well 3 days after my show i had only drank pepsi and other drinks no water i gained about 45lbs in 5 days no shit, went to the doc and he said i was very close to cardiac arrest,i spent the night in the hospital,it took me about 4 weeks to feel normal again,i had blerry vision and looked just very fat.now for my second show i took the same thing lasix in the am and lasix in the pm but the thing i did differnt was to drink 3 pedalights after my show even before i ate i had two bottles, also the next day i drank a ton of water and i felt fine,,,,,,

ok...

the numbness in my hands went away, i brought up my water and cut the soda out and poof feeling came back, guess its not about eating junk post show. theres still a system that needs to be followed. learn more evey day.

alot of your questions have no real solid answer to back them, just pretty much what you like to do personally.

i find the water issues last for about 3-4 weeks. a few days low carb and upping your water will make you feel better.

i stop diuretics cold on the day of the show. i have not read anything based in science that says i should taper them. by the time the show is over i have put enough stress on my kidneys without having to unnecessarily add a diuretic i no longer need.

as for the training/gear i dont go off after a show- i drop the fina, eq, winnie, etc and anti-e's but keep my test fairly moderate (750mg/week) as i find the weeks after the show are the best times to make some serious gains in the gym. your body is like a sponge, just waiting to soak up all the nutrients and calories you have been denying it for 20 weeks of prep.

agian, this is just what i do. others may have different ways, but this is what works for me.

hope this helps.
