We had to put down our dog today. She was only 3yrs old but had bad ACLs. She was half great dane and half lab. I am sooo sad!
Lots of pack drive and protective of our family. I will always love her.

So, so sorry.
Worst time of my life (including the time of my divorce) was when I found out my dog had cancer and eventually I had to put her down.
She was a rottie and I got over 10 years with her, but it didn't make it easier.
Good luck, sorry again

BF5, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, I know how you feel...back in the fall I had to put down our 11 yr old Boxer and 6 weeks later my Rott died while at the vet. Be strong.

My heart goes out to you. One of the hardest things I've ever had to do. Just put down my dog down last year that I had since I was 15 and I"m 30 now, he was my sidekick for half my life. It felt like losing a part of myself. But what really helped was getting another dog. I still miss him though.

Thank You everybody for replying back. Makes it better knowing others are out there too!

I wish you would contacted me.

sorry to hear this. Dogs are such great pets. All they want to do is please their owner and the littlest things seem to make them happy.

Really sorry

Hey I am really sorry for your loss, I know a lot of us on here have dogs as part of our family and we love them as family. I have pasted an email that I got awhile back that kind of explains it all.

Hi Anthony,

I have received this before, but this time, I
received it from a wonderful friend of mine, and
decided that there may be some of you who have
not read it.

It is such a good lesson!

"A Dog's Purpose, (from a 6-year-old)"

"Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine
a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The
dog's owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little
boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and
they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer.
I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker,
and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for
the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements,
Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good
for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure.
They felt as though Shane might learn something
from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my
throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane
seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last
time, that I wondered if he understood what was
going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped
peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept
Belker's transition without any difficulty or
confusion.

We sat together for a while after Belker's death,
wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal
lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who
had been listening quietly, piped up, 'I know why.'
Startled, we all turned to him.

What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd
never heard a more comforting explanation. He said,
'People are born so that they can learn how to live
a good life -- like loving everybody all the time
and being nice, right?' The six-year-old continued,
'Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they
don't have to stay as long.

Live simply
Love generously
Care deeply
Speak kindly

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn
things like:

* When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
* Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
* Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your
face to be pure ecstasy.
* Take naps.
* Stretch before rising.
* Run, romp, and play daily.
* Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
* Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
* On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
* On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
* When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
* Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
* Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
* Stop when you have had enough.
* Be loyal.
* Never pretend to be something you're not.
* If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
* When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close
by and nuzzle them gently.
* Always be grateful for each new day and for the
blessing you have."

"ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!"

As a said, wonderful lessons from our furry friends.

Sad to hear.

It feels bad reading that....I lost a dog I loved and never had the heart to get another one. :(

Heartache

I currently have 3 dogs and 2 cats. My daughter is named after a beloved Rotty who died 2 months before Kate's birth. My current rotty just had her ACL replaced on Tuesday. It's absolutely crushing when you lose a pet. They remind us that life is way too short, be happy and give love whenever you can. Go get another dog.

Jethro - go get one too! For my last dog I went to the animal shelter and said - "Just give me the next one on your list to be euthanized" She's a great dog! Every day is a gift for her - and my family.

nothing matches the unconditional love of a dog... Sorry to hear... I lost myu dog abt 5 years ago and it hurt worse than ending it with the gf of 3 years.... Best thing I did was go to the local shelter and adopt a dog that needed help. (after some time had past)

Best of luck man.... Hang in there..

really sorry :(

Got a new dog!!

My wife and kids adopted a dog from the shelter that was to be put down. She is half boxer and half pit bull. She is about one yr old and very pretty.

I forgot what it was like to have a dog that could move! What fun.

Izzy cannot be replaced but this is a nice way to honor her death.

Thank You all for your wonderful words.

I will try to post some pictures soon.

Very cool! Sorry to hear about your beloved pet, but you've given another one a second chance. Very touching. :)

What a great thing you did for the dog and your community :)...post up some pictures of the new one when you get a chance. Enjoy her!
