Question for Mike Arnold re:hyperplasia (or others with expertise)

Mike, you wrote in your article on steroid dosing/diminishing returns that certain drugs paired with particular types of training can induce muscle hyperplasia.

Could you comment further on this and talk about the compounds and types of training to which you were referring?

Obviously, with the amount of expertise on this board, I know there are others that could comment on this, as well...so please educate me!

Muscle hypertrophy(muscle cells growing in size)happens with steroids. I highly doubt hyperplasia happens as steroids can't cause muscle cells to multiply.

The best scientists in the world can offer no certainty when it comes hyperplasia.

Not too long ago, both scientists and trainers alike denied that adult hyperplasia ever occurs. Today we tentatively understand that it is possible, but it's a relatively slow process, and of course, people attribute it to GH, etc

The fact is, we don't dissect enough humans to get the hard data. You'd have to dissect a person and count the fibers!

Not so far from now, people will just be able to transfer Myoblasts in order to create new fibers. It's called Myoblast Transfer Therapy. Look out for that one.

It's only theory based on dissection of rats after gh was given. Hyperplasia did indeed occur in rats but that doesn't mean it translates into humans.

My one professor is a muscle biologist and he said from what he has studied and read, the only evidence of what they thought was hyperplasia in humans was actually just the splitting of a muscle fiber due to it becoming too big in size.

He's a guy that's studied bodybuilding all his life, trained himself in both the science, and practicality of PED use. Very bummed to see him banned, but hopefully he can return.
