Hey guys,

For those of you who are in sales I just wanted to ask you how you make people let down their guard and not think your just another bullshitter, especially on cold calls. I will tell you first that I am a good salesman because I don't bullshit people, I tell them if they can save or if they cant, and I am confident that I have the best product on the market.

With the business I am in, I should be converting 80% of people to my product just because the product is better and more economical. However, most of them think its too good to be true, pass me off as a bullshitter, and send me out the door, or they dont even listen to me at all.

I wish I had a way to land those sales, and I was hoping you guys could help me out.

Bonding. Make them like you. In B to B sales, this can be especially tough because they're at work and have more important things to do than drain their expense account, they don't want to bond so you really have to think on your feet. I usually focus on where they are from to start with, ask them a couple of questions about there state/town just to get them talking. If it's a guy, mention the local NFL team, they'll likely light up like a christmas tree. If they're from the carolinas, mention Nascar. If you've been to their state on vacation, that helps a lot, once they're talking to you, tell them about the amazing vacation you had there and really make it a good story. Most importantly you need to use your own voice influction, be commanding, engaging, make them want to talk to you. If they're 100% comfortable w/ you, then they won't go anywhere else, even if your product costs more.

I am curious though....telephone sales? door to door? what is your product?

Door to door sales is very hard. #1 rule in sales: ESTABLISH TRUST.
