I have been researching this diet for my 2 German Shepherd Pups. I was wondering if any members have any experience with this diet and if they would like to share their opinions and experiences.

raw diet

Just started changing my 2 year old rottweilers diet to a raw diet ,my vet has recommended to start her on frozen chicken legs , make sure they are able to digest the bones , If there are no problems with the chicken legs then work they way up to a frozen cornish hen , they also need a trace mineral/ vitamin supplement .. my dog also gets raw milk a few months now . There is also a beef diet , I can't remember all the details . Maybe Emeric has some raw diets too

the best nutrition for dogs raw diet would be squirrel , rabbit , ground hog and pheasant in my area .

Ive been doing it for years. I will never use dog food after seeing the difference in my dogs health, skin, fur, eyes and quality of life. I would start out with chicken necks for a few weeks then move to leg quarters. my dogs get green veggies, eggs, liver, and fish oil through out the week also. The bulk of the diet is %50 meat %50 bone for a balance of calcium and phosphorus.

What do you recommend for a puppy?

take your dogs weight and multiply it by .06 if a puppy and .03 if and adult this will give you the amount of raw meat and bone to feed daily. So a 25lb pup will eat 2lbs of meat&bone and a 25lb adult will eat 1lb. I start most pups or dogs that are new to raw on chicken necks and @ 12 weeks old ore after 2 weeks which ever comes last i move to leg quarters (most butchers sell these in a 40lb case) give 4 grams of fish oil and some cooked green veggies (i use caned spinach) once a week i give some liver and green tripe (this is in a can you can buy online or at some upscale petstores) this is the bulk of the diet after that have fun with it. beef, eggs fruit(stay away from grapes) as you wish

My guy gets leg quarters, it's much better for him and it's cheaper than dog food. He also likes raw broccoli and loves baby carrots. Once a week he'll get mackeral. He also gets a few tablesppons of plain yogurt to help with digestion, I don't think he needs it because his food gets completely digested, another benefit of fresh food, it turned into more of a treat, he gets all excited when he sees me grab the container. Keep in mind that if you plan on doing this the transition has to be made slowly.
