When someone tears their teres minor or infraspinatus will they know it? Can someone look at you from the back and see that it is torn or will only an xray show it? Can you press on where the tear is and feel pain?

If anyone can answer these questions I would appreciate it!

Thanks

i think an x ray will really only show broken bones. to see a rotator injury i believe you'll need an MRI, and i doubt that someone could tell just by looking at you. i've got a partially torn rotator in my left shoulder which gives me a lot of pain sometimes but no one would be able to tell by just looking.

if you put your arms in the same position as a benchpress when the bar is touching your chest, and rotate your arm upwards while keeping your elbow in the same position, and if you notice pain in your shoulder, it's more than likely your rotator. when i tore mine i got no bruising or anything, just pain. sitting here in the chair right now and rotating my left arm up like that fuckin hurts like hell, but my right arm and shoulder has no pain. hope this helpsl

I never knew when I injured something back there. Its like right under my rear delt and hurts when I"m in the position to do a dumbell or military press and rotate my elbow toward the front. My chiro said it was torn by looking at me from the back he said that my clavicle was dropped down and that indicated that it was torn but I have no idea when I did this because I just woke up one day and it hurt when I did certain exercises and its been like this for 5 or 6 years. I would lay off certain exercises and it would get to where there was no pain so I never thought I had a tear until I went to the chiro about a month ago but I'm questioning if it is or not?

My pain is in the upper area, under the front/side deltoid. I'm hoping its nothing much and will go away. I can still do dumbell presses, it just bothers me sometimes. The pain is not that bad but still hurts. Got this after heavy benching, was doing sets of 315 :) so easy; but the pain came like two weeks later when I quit doing the heavy weights so I just dont get it :(

I have just had a cortisone shot for a rotor cuff tear in my right shoulder. I have taken the week off training and so far no pain.

Now that you have a injury, after you get better, just remember to do
rotator cuff exercises. This will help you from hurting it again. Its a must
for me at 37 with both rotator cuffs being hurt at one time or the other.

massnup, I doubt the chiro would be able to make a correct diagnosis from looking at it! You probably have a severe strain and it will need time to heal, bout 4-6weeks. You do not want to push this as it will eventually tear. MRI is the only real way to tell if it is torn. If it was a full tear you would barely be able to move your shoulder and rotation would be near impossible. Back off of it for a while. Keep putting Ice on it and let it warm on it's own. You must reduce the imflammation first before healing can take place. Then do your rotator exercises after a layoff period to strengthen it back up.

Thanks oldfella! I can rotate it every which way with no problems but it hurts only when I rotate it a certain way. I have full movement in any direction. I was hoping to god that I haven't torn anything.

I started 3 different types of rotator cuff exercises 2 weeks ago so I'm hoping that will strenghthen them.

Thanks

Yeah, if it was a tear, you'd know it. Could be a strain or a minor micro tears. That shit could easily takes months to heal. Wonder if HGH would help or not?

Best way to avoid shoulder injuries? or common ones. Avoid heavy bench, avoid dips; at least for me these two are out of the question :)

why dont u just shot me then.:D ha ha thats like having sex without a hard-on

I've never had to take any antiinflamatories or anything for it but its just a hindrance to my shoulder and chest workouts. I've always been able to do all exercises but just a few certain ones would cause pain in that area.

The ones that would cause pain were: DB or military shoulder press, incline bench press, db incline bench press, lying tricep extensions and squats because of the position it would put my shoulders in.

Nothing says you can't build shoulders without pressing!! There are many other ways to train around your problem. Change the angle of your inclines. Most guys incline way too high, try about 30degree inclines and do not come down too low. Front squats for legs etc. It is not the end of the world. You will recover. it is a pain in the ass but work around it till it heals.

well tomorrow i go to the doc to see what the MRI says.today i discovered that decline bench and decline db dont hurt me at all.and front cable pull and front cable push downs dont hurt me and got a hell of chest work out.i guess i will be doing these for a while till my shoulder heals among other ones i did that did not hurt

i started doing rotator cuff exercises with bands every time i work out about 5 or so months ago. before this it felt like my left shoulder was going to slip out of socket when doing skull crushers. now, there is NO problem at all...in fact i really LOVE doing rotator cuffs!

Hey, I'm the same way, it dont hurt doing decline bench :) I bet your MRI is gonna show minor microscopic tears in the ligamet/tendon. Keep us updated.

What types of rotator cuff exercises are you doing?

i do the internal and external rotation and the 90*external rotation (picture sets 1,2, and 4 in the link below) with thera bands. if you start doing these, dont try to go really hard on them by using the most difficult band...really try to feel the correct muscles working by using GOOD FORM. you'll find the internal rotation is much stronger than the external rotation. i like using bands because of the constant tension they provide.
