Hi,
I am looking to get over and do some fitness type modeling or shoots from bbing while im in the offseason. I attached a couple of pics. I just wanted to know exactly what I would need to do, where I would need to go or how I would need to change my physique to possible get some type of work. I am 22, 200 lbs and about 5' 11"-thanks for your help/criticisms in advance

Fitness modeling is all about who you know. Some of those guys look terrible but get in magazine shots all day long. Scott Rich is an example. Guy looks aweful, they just airbrush some abbs on him and he's set. Its b/c he is close to a bunch of gay dudes who have a crush on him in the industry. Others know people who know people and thats how they get it. If you are somewhat lean and lift weights you can be a fitness model easily. Its all airbrushing,photoshop,etc.. in real life they look nothing like in the magazines.

FG, thanks for your reply, I can totally understand that connections mean a lot. I know this a bbing board, so it might not be as easy to get advice or guidance for fitness gigs, but if anyone has any ideas, whether it be critcisms on my physique to get into the industry(I definitely know I need more thickness) or ideas on how to get into the fitness modeling world with my body, it would be appreciated-

even if u wanna be in the fitness style pictures, u need a bit more size, especially in the chest area bro

Your correct if he wants to do certain ads and magazines, but his build would easily work in most fitness mags, b/c when they are done with the airbrush and photoshop it will work.

From what i've seen with the photoshop they do, most guys look about 5-7% b/f less and about 10-15lbs more muscle then how the look in real life.

Thanks for the criticisms and feedback- I appreciate it- here is another pic similar to the first, but you can also see the wheels as well

Mr.eo1,

Fitness/modeling is a hard bizz. It's 80% on who you know and being in the right place at the right time. I have been doing both BBing and fitness/M and it's a tough combo...they want you light under 200 and cut and in BBing you want to be big and lean. Up and down. You best bet is to get in the best shape of your life get some professional pic taken and create a portfolio. Then submit them to agents or mag's..selcet people with good references don't do nude shoots and if its sounds to good to be true it probably is.

Thanks for your reply, keepittoous, good shots btw, it was very informative and helpful, I will definitely try and get some good shots of myself, no nude of course, and try and send em out with some good reps. I completely understand its a tough industry, and connections are important as also Fourthgen says. BBing is great , but I would like to stay healthier and leaner year round and gain size slowly while maintaining a nice shape- but again thanks for all the input, it really helps me formulate a plan if I am going to try and get into it, I am a medical student mainly, so bbing is just a hobby for me, not my career, but if I can try to score some gigs, it would be great-

no bro, even with photoshop, he is still laging a few pounds

I do admit I definitely need more thickness and size as I have long limbs and am tall. I also do understand that hopefully I can get into some gay friendly mags. I am straight, but I do know that to get into the industry, you may have to start somewhere. I am very well aware. Here is one more front bicep shot, as you can see I def could use some overall thickness especially in my chest and arms, but this comes with time.

I agree with everyone when they say its all about who you know!! But, everyone needs to start somewhere. What I would recommend is you try to find a photographer to work with. Start building a portfolio and then the rest will follow if you are lucky! Join a website such as modelmayhem.com or onemodelplace.com and email a few photographers and inquire about a TFP/TFCD shoot (time for print/time for cd) where you and the photographer will work together to buld your portfolios with no compensation from both parties. Hope that makes sense??

Play close attention who you work with. Make sure the photographer has plenty of model references because any freak with a camera can say they are photographers but in reality wanna see you in your birthday suit :)

Hope this helps and best of luck to you. There is money to be made but in the end it all comes down to how lucky you are and who you know! ;)

Why does everyone keep saying its who u know??? thats so not true, that may apply for the dudes who are ok or trying super hard to make it into a mag.

Heres the truth, if you have what it takes they will find u, If you have a good physique with a marketable pleasing look or uniqueness about you then you will have a chance to model, if you dont posses a certain look your shit outta luck because there are a thousand dudes waiting in line, so it comes down to u either have it or u dont.

I could have made a career outta fitness modeling but its just not worth the
time or money, you dont get paid much and you have to be ready on call ripped for a shoot which means no adding muscle to the frame. I was noticed walking around at the O expo by three of the top photograhers in the business, at first I was like wtf is this a joke, I was weaing a long sleeve thermal shirt with jeans:confused: didnt even show any muscle at all except what u could see threw the shirt, and they still approached me and took great interest in me. Dont get me wrong its fun to be in some mags but after that whats the point, Im glad I never kissed ass or had to know the "right people" its not worth it if you have to flaunt yourself and sell yourself for a lousy pic in a mag.

Judging from the pics you have posted I just dont see much of a future in
Fitness modeling, dont take this the wrong way, its not soemthing u work for
its just something u have, now if your mug (face) is great looking u may have a much better chance, but of course judging from the pics you physique isnt what they are looking for bro, if you wanna be in a mag for a few hundred bucks well i say go for it , most of the guys who really dont look like mag material and are in the mags repeativley are the guys who know the "right people" these guys u dont wanna become, if they want your look and your something
their interested in then they will find u bro its how they make their money its their job, best of luck.

  read my above post. It doesn not come down to how lucky u are or who u know, thats false info for a dude starting out.

Odds are elevated Kaiser will call me a die-hard fan again, but I gotta say I agree 100% with Vander. :p ;)

If you stand out u're noticed... if you look like any other guy, better focusing on something else.

Ah shit, what do you know - first post of Vander's that I agree 100% with!

Nope, I agree with him too.

However, with a little work, and depending on his face he may have luck at something like underwear modelling or something like that. It would be more suited to his frame, he would need to lean out even more than what he is today. The only problem may be the tattoo around his neck, if that is a tattoo.

Thanks for the honest feedback, it does mean a lot to me- I do have a small tattoo by my neck btw- I also do stay lean and tan year round, I am in the medical field and a trainer so I try to stay and look the best I can, I can understand everyones opinion, and by no means I am no brad pitt(facially), but this is an idea, and lifting and eating right is my love- I can get leaner if that may be the case, my genetics is my genetics tho, I cannot change that- I know there are a 1000 guys like me wanting the same thing- but if I have a look that someone wants, Im sure they will find me, but I plan to keep an open mind- thanks again for all of the feedback, its appreciated-
