Do many do this? Do you feel it hits the quads better? Are you giving up a lot because of the lighter weights. I've used chains and bands to compensate for the ease at the top, but it's kinda a pain to hook them up. (yeah, I'm lazy)

i think you give up complete develop in order to impress people who could care less by being able to use more weight on the bar.

True Doug Butt

If you use a weight light enough to go ALL the way down, is it enough weight to hit the muscles working at the top of the range of motion? The postier chain? (Butt, lower back, hams?) I'm comparing just below 90 degress with all the way down. I'd appreciate people opinions and experiences.

i squat ass to the floor, no exceptions. i have no knee problems, i never have, so i will continue this way indefinately.

i think a lot of people who don't squat down all the way do it so they can 'do more weight' and no other reason

some people may have knee injuries and/or pain so partials may be the only option for them. but i still think most of the partial guys are doing it for the weight reason

when i was a kid i was a 'partial guy' so i could do more weight in the high school gym. all i got from it was quad development. when i started going deep my glutes and hams got up to par with my quads and overall my legs got much bigger

You need to do both ways to fully develop the thighs.

How about doing sissy squats with lighter weight if you get get real low on heavy squats became for persons with preexisting lower back issues.

Honestly

I cant say it would be the same.........sissy squats are more like a leg extension.......pretty much useless as far as gaining mass.

Thanks Phil

That's what I thought, but didn't really want to hear.

i have some experiece with squats started squating back in 96-97? mi stads 34 yrs 5,7 210@ about 7-8 % bf mi last leg workoutincluded squats warming up to a max of 510 lbs for 7 reps then 455 for 9 reps. plus i have been workingout and hanging out with some of the best squaters in michigan some of u may know them one of them holds the mich record for squats with a 1000 plus. any way the most valuble advise i got from them is to not go lower than paralel so we use benches and boxes for uor squat, and that saved mi nees,i started geting ne pain aroun 2002 and comented to the guys and they quickly pointed out that it was due to mi deeeep squat. as far as whaites i have always lifted the same maybe since i dont maxout it dont matter the othere thing i notice since i stoped going low is a reduction in ass zise which i dont mined. mi stand go to paralel or above.

I always use to squat just below parallel until I met my old training partner. He had me squatting ass to the floor. First few times I was puking, because of the intensity. But I found over time I got use to it and my legs improved big time. And I am able to handle just as much now as I did before.

Guess have to stick with leg presses to go heavy. I will go down deep only with light weight for higher reps with regular squats. Usually after leg press for preexaust because if not I will wan't to handle alot of weight and my lower back can't do it.

Sissy squats always blew up my quads for some reason. I don't do leg extension they do nothing for me.

Ever since I started lifting- about 8 years or so ago- I have been squating ATG. I've read articles that it is better for the knee as it allows the knee to reset at the bottom of the lift.

With a wide stance and ass to grass my legs have developed as very big at the outside of the quad, hammies and inside legs are big, but I'm lacking in one part of the leg. The teardrop. I believe that wide stance ATG squats miss the teardrop somehow, and I am living proof.

As some have said, you need to do both to get full development.

Ass to ankles! Im sorry but I want to be strong all the way through the motion.

squatting atg does not mess up your knees...sucky form messes up your knees. @ about 90 degrees, the majority of the stress is placed directly on your knee caps. If you squat deep and in between your legs the majority of the stress is placed on your hips, which can handle it.

Most guys bounce out of the hole, that is problably the MOST common reason guys knees start giving them problems.

You hit the posterior and quad more by going all the way down , so thats the trade off. Look at Olympic lifters. Youll be hard pressed to find any of them that lack leg development, esp in the quads.

how wide do you stand?

i ask because if you go real wide, there is no way you can go ass to ankles..... without destroying your hips....
