Tendonitis

New to this board. I used to perform heavy, bread-and-butter overhead triceps excercises and got great results. Now, ten years later, I also have bad tendonitis in both elbows. I quit doing overhead exercises, but am still in a lot of pain. I notice it mostly when I sleep.

I've tried Celebrex, Advil, applying ice, etc. but it doesn't help much. Should I just not train triceps directly anymore? Is this permanent? Thoughts?

Thanks.

Welcome to my world my friend. I have this problem along with bursitus and yes this will stay will you to a point. As long as you do something to stay on top of it you should be fine. This is what I do and it works pretty well. Go to an Art therapist (active release therapy) it's slightly painful at first but relieves almost all the pain and allows you to get back to your normal workouts. Many here have talked about this before. Basically is what will happen is the therapist will go in and manually break up the inflamation and give you relief. I suggest you give it a shot.

yea it sucks!

dude.. i've been dealing with it in my right elbow/forearm for 3 or so months... it's much better now.... just takes time...
trust me.. i know what you're going thru...

stretch it good prior to workout
either do lighter sets with whatever exercise is causing the most problems for it... (mine was ez curls)

stretch it by holding your arm out in the "stop sign" signal
and while holding it outstretched... pull back on your fingers using your opposite hand.....

heating pad helped mine a little... but just took time.. mainly
hang in there.. like i said took me about 3 months to get rid of it....

Over the years, I've had my elbows bother me as a result of exerting them with tricep exercises.

Doggcrapp had me switch my "main" tricep compound movement to "J" Presses and they seem to be doing much better.

What's a J press?

thanks,
GJ

( I ask because my forearm tendons bother me when doing tricepts)

I have it for years and nothing makes it go completely away. Sometimes it's not a severe, but its always there!
I've recently started looking into accupuncture and intend to give it a try. I'll be sure to follow-up here with the results.

J Press

On flat bench
Shoulder width/close grip on barbell
Lower bar to mouth/chin area (not touching - of course)
Then downward to chest
Press up
Repeat

This motion is like a "J"

J press is also known as a skull crusher/ nose breaker, and I think french press as well... in terms of tendonitis, it sucks, I have it in one of my knees from football, the most effective thing for me was 800mg Ibuprofen, taking 3X a day for a week or 2 would make the inflamation go away for a long time..
