Something to be proud of in Baltimore sports for a change...
The 10th anniversary of his 2131 consecutive game streak, that broke
Gehrigs supposedly 'unbreakable' record. He finished with 2631.
He represented sports in a way that no other person in the last 20yrs has.
Great talent brought to full potential. Never any controversary. NEVER said
the wrong thing, ever. Loved his sport more than anyone I can ever remember. Raised with honor and dignity and tremendous work ethic by his family and especially his Dad, Cal Sr. Works dilligently with youths in baseball.
Been MVP 2 times. Rookie of the year 1982. Caught the last out of the 1983 World Series. Hit 400HR and 3000hits which only 7 others have done. Reinvented the shortstop position, as a big man being 6'4" and muscular. Had only 3 errors in one season (played every game). And of course-the STREAK.
And some say he should not be a first ballot Hall of Famer?
Thats the most ignorant thing Ive ever heard!
And last but not least-a very liberal stance on the 'steroids in sports' issue.
Ive heard several statements from him. In general-Cal states its not right to judge others, and the only people who should judge one is ones self. He did not stand on the Politicall Correct soap box and bail out.
Salute Cal! I saw 2131 and it was the most stirring moment Ive ever witnessed in sports. A class act.
