Hey guys- I wanted to ask a question maybe you can help me out with- I was going to do the north east open- but never did, but I did go and was glad I did not compete- got to know when to hold em and when to fold em- stopped my diet 3 -4 weeks ago and started eating hard to gain again- got an offseason for a while and want to gain size, so I have been asking a lot of questions to you guys about the offseason- but i am posting my pics to see if I am getting to big too soon or is it just bloat- I seem to never stop eating- clean food first then junk food , my appetite is nuts- should I clean it up and chill or should I keep going and eat hard cuz I need to gain- I am 20 and I am taking a good couple of years off to finish up school and gain some quality mass before I compete in an open-these are two shots- one at 190 and the other at 215(today)...please advise and I did eat right before the shot today-

nah , I didnt do the show- I just didnt feel I was lean enough and good enough, but I went to see the show to see the competition, I saw the novice lhws and they were advanced and had at least 10 years on me and imho would of smoked me, they both also did well in the open...but I just called it a learning oppurtunity and leaned out a little and went back to the drawing board for my next show- next time I will invest in a trainer to dial me in, my mind was too confused and I think I did not diet right- live and learn-
here is a pic of them- sorry about the poor qual. but I think you get an idea

you should falow with what you did,you were week out.remember its always going to be guys who is going to look better then you.
i know myself i am always feel that i am not looking like i want,but i still do it,i just think that i am not good enough for myself to do the show,but i never quit.so next time dont think about it and do it ;)
so get your ass in the gym and start training hard like you always do.and good luck in your next show. ;)
 
honestly, looks like every pound you added was not "quality." I would drop the fat you added, stay lean and build up slowly, increase your calories...slowly, with clean foods. You don't have to be perfect with your diet, but eating sloppy will result in a sloppy physique. There are plenty of people on this board, that for a fair fee, could help get your training and diet where you want it to be.
 
damn bro, looks like your stomach is the only thing that grew. lay off the junk food for while.
 
It looks to me that most of that added weight went to your waist. One thing to keep in mind is that the scale does not make you a bodybuilder if its reading big numbers. What I mean by that is Ive seen too many guys get on the scale and say "Yeah man Im up to 250" or whatever. The sad reality of it is if you are 250 and 15%, thats not a good look nor bodybuilding in my opinion. Its a marathon, not a sprint as I was once told and thats very true. Garbage in equals garbage out so I try to maintain a clean diet and in return I feel my gains are better. Now Im not talking about pre-contest dieting, but you can just eat your chicken, turkey, lean cuts of steak, brown rice, sweet potatos, oatmeal, ect and then flavor to your taste. Just don't go nuts with the fast food and useless sugars and refined white flours. Sometimes its the little added tweaks to the diet that force your body into new growth spurts. It could be as little as a 3-400 calorie increase to make you grow and keep fat at bay. Just keep at it and be as consistant as possible. That is the key in my opinion. Set a goal and stick to it. Your first show is a learning experience anyway. Just get in the best shape you possibly can and have fun. Then once you are lean, you can add some quality muscle and go from there.
 
oh man- this is too great- this is exactly what I said when I saw it- but I got to let go for a while even if it was for a couple of weeks- my stomach got big as hell, but im bloated as hell and I am sweating all the time, very uncomfortable, anyway- I am consuming at least 6k cals a day-4k being clean the rest is junk basically- will kick it to just 4k clean- do you guys suggest cheat meals or cheats days in the offseason and how about condiments like ketchup- my diet for 4k is perfect - and is really good for growing- but I had to eat my body needed it for a couple of weeks- will get lean in no time flat- just wanted to post this to see what you guys thought- will update in due time- thanks for all the input makes me cant wait till I kick the junk and start eating clean again!

i thank big a for having this board because without this I wouldnt know where i lie, but now that I hear all of your opinions which are all awesome- I know that getting fat is not always the best way to gain muscle and I know what to do now to get big while staying in good condition and you get to see me to critique- thanks all for the input- keep it coming, but i got to say eating french fries and cookies and milk is quite fun for a little while- but not fun when you are fat!this is body building not a pie eating contest im training for-

Ketchup, BBQ sauce, and other sauces are really what turns my pre-contest type diet into my off season diet. Ill bump up my carbs a bit too but Ive found that my body is very carb sensitve and I need more good fats.
 
I'll be brutally honest and tell you that those 25 extra lbs have done nothing for you. Probably need to start keeping tabs on your kcals.
 
yeah guys- I gained some mad bloat- dropped it in the last couple of days im around 205-210- started eating around 3800 kcals/day with around 300 grams of protein- nice clean diet- my abs are appearing again- thanks for the response - it really made me go back on my clean diet and man did I feel a whole lot better- it was just what I needed! thanks guys

Think you would have actually learned more by doing the show. Eventually if you want to compete, have do do the 1st one. You will need to learn how YOUR body reacts. What works for me may not help you. Be careful not to put all the weight you are trying to gain on in the mid section as from your pics that looks like where it is going.
 
your rebounding from dieting, happens to everyone. this is just my opinion but you need to do exactly what you said focus on your job/school and just be consistent with your training and diet. you have the rest of your life to compete. focus on getting stronger on the basics movements maybe even do some powerlifting to build a better base (note coleman, francios, warren, columbo, jackson...) were all powerlifters at one time. competitive bodybuilding is about what you look like 1 day of the year, not everyday. eat dude eat, your 20 dont worry about the fat, now if you were 30 it would be a different story. do a minimal amount of cardio 3x 30min a week to keep the cardiovascular system pumping good. i'm not saying get like lee priest but i think you get the idea. once your happy with your size then you can stay lean year around and just focus on adding lean mass. keep it all simple, workout cause you love it not to compete
 
swap out the junk food for supplemental good fats.

olive oil, almonds, PB, etc.

if you are eating big and clean there is not much room for junk food.

too much junk food will get you what you have now (i know i have done it too)
 
ok- guys had to update to help figure out if my dieting is coming thro after rebounding from dieting-dont want to get too fat in the offseason- I ate back on my diet for the last week- been up to around 210-215lbs-eating around 3700 cals- my question to you is should I kick down the cals a little more to be a little leaner or is this a good offseason weight- please advise-thanks
