Wow, finally a decent card. I'm picking GSP over Hughes. Hughes seems to be lacking the confidence of days past. I'll pick Silva over Liddell. I don't think Liddell can stand toe to toe with him. Just for the hell of it give your pick on Hughes vs Serra...too bad he's injured. I think Hughes would have submitted him.

Im about to place some bets, so far im 2-0 in UFC bets although the 2 bets I made were just taking the favorites. Let me know who your picks are and why.

Heres what it looks like in Vegas.

Sat 12/29 5901 Matt Hughes +195
11:00PM (EST) 5902 Georges St Pierre -235

Sat 12/29 5903 Wanderlei Silva -130
11:00PM (EST) 5904 Chuck Liddell +100

Sat 12/29 5905 Lyoto Machida -140
11:00PM (EST) 5906 Rameau Sokoudjou +110

my picks...

I'm going:

George St. Pierre BEATS Matt hughes
why? Hughs is getting a bit older and GSP is full of surprises, i think it will be a long fight with GSP knocking him out later in the rounds

Liddell BEATS Serra
why? liddell is just a more athletic and skilled fighter. Serra will be in trouble unless it goes to the ground, which Liddell is good at NOT doing if he doesn't want to.

and i don't know those other guys or i forgot???:D STEELE

st. pierre over hughes, gsp is a better wrestler believe it or not
silva over liddell, silva has more ways to win than chuck
soku over machida, could be a good fight but soku has so much power like houston alexander except soku is the real deal
guillard over clementi, melvins pure athleticism will lead to an easy win
palelei over sanchez, not a fan of sanchez..palelei is too powerful for him
cane over irvin, irvin is coming off knee surgery but he has a lot of power, cane is a very good fighter look for him to submit irvin
gamburyan over mohr, manny will lay and pray his way to a decision
radev over lister, does anyone really care about this fight??
carneiro over desouza, 3 rounds of excellent jiu jitsu
bocek vs evans?? havent seen much from these guys dont really care

GSP
Silva (hoping for Liddell though)

Hughes will beat Serra if they ever fight again.

My thoughts

GSP over Hughes. Hughes is stagnant at this point, GSP is still learning and still hungry.

Silva over Liddell. Wandy will only lose if careless and gets caught with a haymaker from chuck. Liddell looked timid in his last fight and never adjusted to his opponent.

Come on now. Give cred where it is deserved.

Hughes over the frog. Hughes is from the militech camp!;) He has got this one in the bag. And silva over lidel. He is a more rounded fighter. He can go toe2toe, or ground and pound! :D

GSP over hughes.

GSP has beaten him before (psychologically a huge advantage), and hughes after losing to serra and GSP hasn't shown me lately that he can confidently beat anyone, let alone someone who had his number the first time...

liddell over silva.

pride fighters do not have good showings in the smaller confined space of the octagon. crocop was not someone who you would want to fight in pride. in the ufc, he looks mediocre at best, and alot of this is attributed to not having the bigger ring to fight in.

I'm hoping for Liddell and GSP.. I'm not sure Chuck can pull it through though. Silva is a great fighter and very well rounded..

Great point about Hughes and GSP. However i don't know about the whole pride fight statement. In pride they let the fights go on longer. It is a tougher breed in pride. UFC has become to regulated by the gaming commision, but i guess that is where the money is at. Liddell went to pride, and got stomped by rampage. Almost every ufc fighter i can think of that has went to pride was dominated. The rules are less strict. I don't think it is the size of the ring i think it is the rules and the refs interaction. Just my professional opinion, don't take it to heart. :D rEGARDLESS IT IS A GREAT CARD TO SEE ON MY NEW PROJECTOR. ;)

crocop has been disappointing

other former pride fighters
rampage - light heavyweight champ
Anderson silva - middleweight champ
antonio noguera- soon to be heavyweight champ

GSP FOR SURE.. THE LAST KNOCKOUT AND WHEN YA REALLY LOOK AT IT HUGhES WAS GETTING A WHIPPING IN THEIR FIRST FIGHT UNTIL HE (GSP) GOT NAILED WITH A ARMBAR.. i think silva will get liddell.. liddell loss to jardine makes me think he is really on the downward slide and people have figured out how to beat him.. as for the hughes and serra fight.. hughes wwould haved beat him easily..

Liddell and Hughes.

GSP took this fight with short notice after Serra got injured. He's only had about a month to train for this fight and he usually trains for 3 months going into a fight. I'd like to see GSP win, as I'm not a Hughes fan, but a change that drastic can make a big difference.

I hope Liddell wins. If he doesn't, then I think he'll call it quits for good. He hasn't looked sharp at all in his last few fights. Silva's past his prime and probably only has a handful of fights left in him.

look at the histories bro...

jackson cut his teeth in the KOTC, before going to pride, so he is more than comfortable in the octagon.

anderson hasn't fought in a pride fight in 3 years, and before having fought 5 times in the ufc, was able to accustom himself to the smaller surface in cage rage where he had 4 fights.

as for nog, he fought heath herring to a decision, far from being the dominating powerhouse he was in Pride.

and, conversely, Pride fighters have had a less than spectacular showing in the UFC when coming right over (edit: jackson is a great exception to this).

same fighters, same skill levels, different environments.

i'm not saying it is the sole reason why i feel liddell has an advantage in this fight, but it is too historically telling to overlook.

i agree with you on this..i was just trying to say that a lot of pride fighters have done well in the ufc ..and will continue to do so

Awesome thread!!! I love this stuff, but am not in MMA or anything:)

I'm going with:

GSP over Hughes:

I think GSP will dominate hughes unless Hughes has something new up his sleeve. GSP is definately better in standup. I don't think Matt will be able to keep GSP down, and I think that if GSP doesn't knock him out or submit him, then it will be a long 3 rounds of Hughes getting frustrated and a total beating. Hughes appears to be much smaller than his dominant years too.

Liddell over Silva.

This one is much harder to predict. I've seen it broken down all different ways for both to be the favorite. In fact, I can also see Silva winning easy too. I'm just picking Liddell because I think he may have the "live or die" attitude in regards to his career. All I know is if he comes in the way he has his last 2 fights, Silva will knock him silly or submit him. Chuck has to come into this fight well conditioned, light on the feet, and ready to throw down smart with a confident metality....to win imo....which I think he can do. This is the fight everybody has been waiting for for years!!! Can't wait to watch it. I wonder how conditioned Silva is, because what's his name that just lost 2 UFC's ago was in horrible cardiovascular shape.

The other fights i'm not gonna predict. Although Machido is one boring fighter...imo:cool:

GSP & Silva, GSP is just too athletic, and Silva is too vicious for Chuck.
